Just piced up a 60 Falcon. Anybody got any cool pics? Its a four door. My youn sone wants it so I am going to fix it up for him. Runs great 6 banger 3 on the tree. Any links? Thanks Mike
The 1960 came with a 144 cubic inch motor that doesn't have quite the stellar reputation of the later motors. The later 200 incher has seven main bearings instead of four, a third more cubic inches, and was produced for a long time. They are also compatible with better transmissions than the one that came in the '60. They also come with alternators, a substantial improvement. The rear end isn't a strong point, but should survive the output of a 200. Later ones mostly have better brakes, and some have five bolt wheels. An upgrade to front disks is certainly feasible, as is conversion to dual master cylinder. Other than the items mentioned above, all of which are in the upgrade-as-you-go-along category, the little car is about as complicated as an anvil. Should be a fun project, and a cool little ride.
thanks for the info. I am just doing things in the looks and safety catagories. I like the fact that it gets 25-30 miles to the gallon
the fuel pump is shot. I have an electric one, I dont know the operating pressure of it. Any body know a good install. in back or under the hood? do I need a fuse or relay in between? Mike
the fuel pump has a metal filter bowl around it. Can I use a mustang one or other and then run an inline filter?
The lobe on the cam usually wipes out and no longer operates the pump. Mine has an electric pump under the hood but that was installed when I bought it and I will probaly move it back by the tank as these pumps are usually better pushers than pullers. I would use a relay and a fuse, going to when I rewire mine. Here are some pics of my car, hope you and your son have a blast with your car!
this is the pump i have on my 61 falcon http://www.autozone.com/R,APP167521...partType,00078/shopping/partProductDetail.htm
The falcons are a blast my 63 next to a 65 coupe (aussie falcons) All ive done to mine is put lowering blocks in the back, removed a few little bits and kept it clean, its alot of fun runs a 170ci with a 2 speed fordomatic
I have a brand new pump for mine also, sure wish it would work. Other people told me though about the lobe wearing out though and I guess I am stuck running a electric pump unless I want to replace my cam.
pulling the cam in these motors isnt fun,but running the stock pump and have good working vacuum wipers is nice
I heard that! I am not real sure how they got my wipers working, I need to take a look and see. Have not drove any distance in the rain yet so all I know for sure is that they come on, dont know if they slow down and act funny after being on for a while. I suppose you could put a vacumn canister on it but still not 100% sure if that would even keep up.
if it says mustang or comet, it usually fits..notice the word USUALLY..hahahaha. good luck man, I hated selling my 61 Comet, but I have my 65 still, besides, if I wanna work on a falcon, I just go in the shop and spin some wrenches on the ol mans 65 Comet, or 65 falcon drag car...
they did put electric wipers on some of the early falcons,if yours has vacuum wipers just look for a rubber hose going from your intake to your firewall
I have vacume wipers but they are running off the intake manifold and not the fuel pump. I cannot find a fuel pump for this thing anywhere. The one that was in the car(and I mean on the floorboard does not match the one at the parts store. So I do not know what to put in it. The arm on the one at the store is longer than the one I have. Any suggestions? its a 144 motor
The HAMB is fantastic, but fordsix.com can tell more than you ever wanted to know about these things. Where to buy parts, upgrades, etc. Off the top of my head, buy a Pertronix I electronic ignition for $100 along with a hot coil, plugs gapped at .50 and 8mm wires. Buy a 1967 Mustang master cylinder. It's a bolt on providing you with a safer dual set-up instead of a single pot. Be sure to still use your old push rod, not the new one that comes with the m/c. Cut one complete coil from the front spring and 3" blocks out back for a cheap and easy lowered stance. Do a search here on the HAMB for "falcon". I swear, it might be the most popular car on the board. Be sure to visit classicinlines.com, and bring your Visa card.
it is supposed to be a 1960. the motor says 6015-a and C4DE is that not a 64 motor? it has 3 freeze plugs.
I have a 1960 2 door wagon I have driving for years... I had swap the motor after a while... I went with the 200. Craigs list has a post once in a while from some guy swapping a V8 in a maverick or mustang and you can buy their six cheap if not free. I havent started the body work yet but motor wise i have. 260 Comp cam. 2.3L HSC pistons DurasparkII ignition and a MSD coil. Holley/Webber carb on a FrankBoss addapter. 2.5 exhaust All on a 1972 200. the Three speed took a dive and I swapped to a 2.3L 5 speed (selfbuilt adapter)and moved the shifter to the floor. I have a shift handle out of a GMC wheat truck, Crazy long but cool. One the shelf is a OZ 2V head and 2V intake. I'm casting a dual Holley/Webber Intake and a Big finned valve cover this spring in the FrankBoss speed shop. I will have Pic's on FrankBoss.com as soon and its done. I'm not done designing the site. Stay tooned. FrankBoss www.PintoWorks.com
The motor with 3 frz plugs has to be either a 144 or 170. With a C4DE - 1964 block I doubt it is a 144. I don't think they made many after @ 62. The head with the C3 - 1963 casting could be original to the C4 block. Powerband
C4 it's a 1964 year motor, which means it is a 170 or a 4 main 200. The '67 MC is a bolt in, and I used the rod that came with it. Not sure what you mean there LaGrasta. Anyway, they are great cars, and the forum @ fordsix.com kicks ass. Most of the falcon owners here are prominent members there.
the 67 push rod is too long as reported by others on fordsix and in my own experience as I tried to use it and found out quickly it wasn't going to work. Boy was it a bear to remove too.
