Has anyone in the HAMB built a fibergl*** Gene Winfield Mercury car? Has anyone ever seen one? Got pictures? Don't want to get the gl*** vs steel thing please.

    Ugh...you ****.

Ive always wondered about that, but heard the fit is bad on the gl*** stuff.

Would be COOOOL for a 1/4 mile drag car tho! ALA "Ironhorse" :)

    Hey,

The one I have seen didn't look half bad, for a gl*** car. The gelcoat
was very smooth and the panelfitment wasn't much different than
    some steel ones I've seen.
If you're going to put a steel Merc on a clipped ch***is with bags,
a late OHV engine and radial tyres, it ain't a Merc, so why not a
    gl***fibre body?

I have been to Winfield's and have personally seen his gl*** bodies being built. I have quite a few detailed photos showing the quality, or lack thereof. Not only is the quality spotty but the molds were cast from one of his customs AFTER he made some extensive mods. Mr Merc and other vendors would not carry his fenders because they were not to stock dimensions. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you pics so you can be the judge yourself. Gene is a great guy and does great metal work but I would not build one of his gl*** Merc bodies if it were given to me free of charge.
Gene got into this business by building movie prop cars...anyone who has seen "Blade Runner" has seen about 2 dozen of his gl*** cars. They look good on the silver screen but not suitable for the road.

  9. I AM AT GENE'S SHOP ALMOST EVERYDAY.. THE GL*** BODY MERCS ARN'T FOR EVERYBODY. THE QUALITY HAS IMPROVED OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. IT STILL TAKES SOME FITTING AND BLODDY KNUCKLES TO GET ONE TOGETHER. HE IS DOING ONE RIGHT NOW ON A STOCK CH***IS.. THE LINES LOOK GOOD. THE GL*** FLOORPAN FIT THE CH***IS WELL. MOST OF THE CARS ARE PLACED ON LATE 70'S EARLY 80'S OLDSMOBILE CH***IS / FLOORPAN.
I HAVE SEEN THE FINISHED PRODUCT. THEY LOOK GOOD.

  10. I did a google search a while back and couldn't find any info on them.
    Is there a website anywhere?

I'm not diggin the frontend Bob. The headlights look kinda wide open if you know what I mean. I saw one on ebay a while ago that didn't look to bad at all. I guess for $6K, you get what you pay for.

  14. I haven't seen them in a long time, early 90's when they came out. But back then they were really bad. And I mean really bad.

I was even suprised Gene would put his name on it!!!

Here`s one a buddy on another forum was building, but its not a winfield body. I guess he got the bodies and molds from a deal gone bad, so he was building two of them.
