Anyone out there know if somebody makes drop spindles for a 55 Pontiac? Im looking to lower mine down and really dont want to put cut coils under her. On the same page, does anyone know if they make a ball joint conversion kit for that car? thinkn of putting discs on the front and figured converting it would help the ride. Anyone know of any companies out there that would be able to give me a hand?
Hey there 9 years ago when I got my 56, Fat man had a spindle, but it used the drums. They said they had a crude print for a caliper bracket if you were handy. I chose to cut 2 1/2 coils, rides good. For the back a 2 inch S10 kit works fine, the U bolts are tight, but they fit fine. Id like to take out another coil this summer, and put 3 inch blocks in. Here is a pic of the 56 before the shorter tired and reversed rear wheels. Im looking for a Pig if anyones got one, the pinion bearing went out just before Duck Tails, chewed up the Ring & Pinion. Still moves, but sounds like a rock crusher on the coast side or in reverse. ED
God damn! Johnny on the Spot! Cutting the coils of a Poncho is NO bueno for ****! Mines been cut and the fat ***** is hitting on all of her no no spots. The engine is sitting right on the a-arms. Eventually, cut coils will collapse and you'll be singin the blues. I didn't cut mine, I bought her like that. I'll be air bagging mine. Scarebird is supposed to sell the disc conversion kits. Personally, well maintained drums work just as good. Mines also got lowering shackles on the rear. Her *** hits every bump in a SMOOTH driveway. You'll also have to have the drive shaft done and the rear tunnel cut and re-adjusted. Mines already been done...shoddily of course, but the shaft was professionally done and balanced. Another thing to do is put a slip yoke in.

I'm in the middle of installing fatman spindles and scarebird disc brakes on my 55 Chieftian. Still working the bugs out of the brakes so I dont know how it rides yet.
The ball joint conversion basically uses 58 upper and lower arms and spindles. I've done it on my 55. I havn't got to drive it yet though. The springs have to be cut because of the higher position of the lower control arm pocket for the spring. Also the centerline of the spindle is about 2" higher than a stock upright.
