i recieved a invitation in the mail to join this organization, they claim that they are into product testing and they use members to test their products. does anyone know anything about them are they for real or just another scam? thanks for any information.....................tom
its real - and the guys are on here I'm pretty sure. I've tested a few products, but all were pretty weird products IMO The latest one i received didn't have any description or instructions so I had to email to find out what it was. in the end, i junked it because I had no way of testing it - and that has effectively killed my chances of getting any more products...and I'll likely not renew because of that. ymmv though - some people seem to be testing some kick*** stuff.
My wife signed me up..her heart was in the right place. I got the first few magazines..got some free samples..hand cleaner. I have no real problem with them, but they sent me a book about how to build the SBC and i never asked for it..I kept getting invoices for the book, i called them and told them i didnt order it and would like to send it back. They sent me a shipping Label only..i attached it to the book and it came back to me now this has happend 2 times.. Hey if you NSMC guys are on here PM me and i will be glad to get this cleared up..I dont really want to hold your book for ransom..and i dont really want to be a member any more..next time send a box for your book so the post office will accept it.
"Free" always scares the **** out of me. It's been my experience that "Free" always winds up costing me a lot of $$$$........but I'm a su****ious old ******* by nature.
Hotrod magazine used the same tactic. You are under no obligation to accept it or return it. However, you may have to check the fine print that was involved in someone signing you up. I am not a lawyer, but I slept at a Holiday Inn back in the fifties.
I'm the Editor of the Club magazine, Street Thunder. The Street Machine Club offers folks some opportunities other clubs and magazines can't. The company behind the Club has been in business for 30 years. It's a solid deal. Don't believe everything you read on the ripoff report either. We've got around 200,000 Club Members now, and you're certain to get a few bad apples in the bunch. Von Rigg- If you need help, I'll provide it. When the book was sent to you, there was a box it came in and a pre-paid shipping label on it to make returning it easy if it was not to your liking. Obviously, you disposed of the box it came in and then requested another shipping label from us. We obviously provided one for you. Now, you're telling me you slapped the shipping label on the cover of the book and tossed it in the mail? Is that what you said? Come on, man. You can always opt out of the book deal if you choose. Just call the 800-number we print a few times in every issue of the magazine (800-209-9055) and ask to be removed for the book program. It's simple and easy to do. Membership to the Club includes the book program, unless you opt out of it when you join. It's not like we're sending you stuff without your approval- that is what people ***ume on the ripoff report. Rather, they don't know they approved the book deal, and ***ume it's free when they get it. Most folks 'get it' and either enjoy the books (I've personally reviewed and approved every one, and they are really good) or they opt out and choose not to recieve them. This makes no difference in their ability to be in the Parts Testing program, or to enter the Sweepstakes in every magazine issue, or to take advantage of the Club's "Deals and Discounts" program. All of those benefits have nothing to do with the books. If you take advantage of these programs and get involved in the Club, odds are good you'll like it. It's a lot like the HAMB in structure, but it's not limited to traditional rods and customs like we choose to do here. There's a Club website with Forums like this one, and of course the Magazine I work tirelessly to produce. There's also a funny columnist in every issue named Bob K who is known in these parts. We can't be everything to everyone, but we are the fastest-growing modified car magazine in the country right now. Obviously, a lot of folks like it and we're listening to what they're asking for to make sure they stay happy. We will keep working hard to offer the best parts for testing, the best prizes in the sweepstakes, and the best-possible real street driven cars for features. We do our own Tech Stories in our own garages quite often, so readers can relate. We're hot rodders, so we 'get it'. If anyone has any other questions about the National Street Machine Club, or Street Thunder magazine, please feel free to PM me about it. I respect Ryan and the HAMB too much to promote the Club and magazine here, but I will answer any inquiries personally. ~Scotch~ aka Scott Parkhurst
