I have heard rumors of multiple thefts at the Moultrie Ga. Swap Meet, some of them major thefts. Anyone have factual information of this?

I have been a vendor for years, and haven't lost any thing. There are lots of different people out there today. its a shame.

This is what the local newspaper wrote (The Moultrie Observer):

    Published February 01, 2008 11:53 pm -

    Car parts worth $10,000 stolen

    Staff Reports

MOULTRIE — Two vendors at the Moultrie Automotive Swap Meet reported thefts Thursday of car parts that totaled more than $10,000. The swap meet is held two weekends a year at Spence Field, drawing vendors and customers from several states to purchase hard-to-find parts for older vehicles and customized accessories for all kinds of cars. It started Thursday and ends today.
Jan Gaskin of Pell City, Ala., reported a thief stole an Edelbrock nitros kit, 19 Edelbrock intakes, two Moroso water pump kits, two SBC water pump kits, three SBC aluminum heads, a BBC aluminum head, an SBF aluminum head, two aluminum heads, two Proform electric water pumps, an AC Delco water pump and Edelbrock nitros bottle brackets from his booth at the swap meet. The value of the stolen items was $7,809. Officers were given the name of a male suspect.
Brian Bills of Springfield, Ohio, reported a thief stole six sets of Ford fenders and a Ford pickup truck bed from his booth. The value of the stolen items was $2,430.

Probably stolen when the parts were covered up at night. Happens all the time at swap mets around here, ie: Englishtown spring and fall.

Somebody should interview Johnny Cash, I heard he's been building some kinda Cadillac for several years. Probably stringing it out.

  11. Where was security? That's a lot of stuff to just disappear. Sounds like management needs to get their heads out their asses and hire some rent-a-cops or maybe that was the problem, they did hire rent-a-cops.

That is hard to believe! Hope they have insurance to help them with some of the loss. If there is one thing I can't stand it is a thief! We were broken into last year and they stole $40,000 worth of wheels and tires before the police could respond to the alarm. There had to be several people involved and they were very fast. If they want it , they will get it!!

  19. :rolleyes:Apparently, a Georgia car-parts thief.

The other thing to consider is that there was no theft, and the vendors are trying to make up for poor sales. No offense meant to those involved, just thinking it is a possibility....

I was there all day on Friday, got there early, about 09:00, as I wanted plenty of time to look around. Wound up staying all day, as they wouldn't let us bring in the truck to pick up the Accessible Systems Auto Rotisserie till 17:00. OK though, as I found more than enough to keep me looking all that time!
Anyway, with what I saw of security to get in and out, (I even had an escort in and back out after I loaded up), seems to me that stuff is in the hands of another vendor, concealed among his stuff. No other way to get it out of the showgrounds!
How else could anyone get all that stuff out?

brand new rechromed reproduced mirror for a 65 f-100= $50.00
crusty, nasty, orange mirror with barely any reflective mirror on it = $50.00
swap meets just arent the same anymore...

if you felt you were being ripped off, why the hell did you buy the mirrors? and if you didn't buy them, you didn't get ripped off. your post has nothing to do with the point of this topic!

  30. $7000+ from one vendor? a truck bed? i'm thinking inside job (another vendor) how could you possibly pack out that much without someone noticing? you would notice a guy making all those trips carrying heads, intakes, ect. the people working the gates would notice one or two guys carrying all that stuff. it's just too much. it sucks though, you normally don't have to worry about car guys. good bunch in general.
