Hey everybody: My dad and I have been having a go at restomodding a 1940 Cadillac. It's been a minor nightmare- bought the car sight unseen and the fender turned out to be more bondo than sheet metal, rats had gotten to the interior and needed to be replaced, blah blah blah- and then somebody backed their van into the fender, further complicating things. We had it under a car tent, and then it snowed, which brought down the tent on top of the car, giving us some nice bodywork to do on the roof working out a couple of inch deep creases. And just yesterday I noticed that where the data tag should be there's an old oil filter! Enough complaints, in any case. There's a local Cadillac show in mid-May, and we're determined to get it done by then. It's currently mostly disassembled with the entire front end and interior out. We got a crate flathead with shaved heads and, when looking for ways to dress it up, found this place and have been reading through the threads ever since! We've been lucky to find in Hemmings (What an amazing publication) a company right in our town that does nothing but part out Cadillacs, so not all is bad. We've had some 'didn't buy' regret as well- About a year ago an Edelbrock 2x2 manifold with operational carbs and all went for $600 bucks on eBay in great shape, but just last week an Edmunds (Was it Edmunds, Offenhauser, or Edelbrock?) manifold that was rough with questionable carbs went for $2000! I'll get over it. It's nice to meet you all and I'm looking forward to spending time here. Our project isn't quite a traditional hot rod (the fenders are staying on, in any case) but there seems to be much to learn anyways. I'll get some photos in the morning. -Stizz P.S.: Anybody have sidemount fenders for a '40 Caddy?
Photos, plenty of 'em. I've got to clean up the gasket surfaces on the new crate flathead before they get any worse! Password: Cadillac I can't seem to be able to make the album public. http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/40caddy/ Still looking for the VIN tag. I'm afraid we didn't exactly start off on the right foot in terms of organization.
Hi Stizzealth: I would love to see some pictures of your car and see if it is in my list of known 6227c cars. I might also be able to assist in finding some parts, or at least telling you about some interchangability between other cars. Eric Q.
