I may as well move back to the Gulf Coast, the hurricanes were easier to track. These missed us but we have had two within a few miles this year.
Not exactly se, live outside of Louisville Ky. Pretty wierd weather so far this year, the last 2 Tues. Iv'e been looking for Dorthy and Toto, haven't seen them yet but think I did see the wicked witch of the west.
I am in central AR and everything is okay here, but there is quite a bit a damage in Atkins, AR, about 1 1/2 hours west of here on I40... also some damage in north AR. My in-laws live in Mountain View... couldn't get through to them on the phone last night, so we left about 8pm after the storm blew through enough and headed that way... they are okay along with the house, just some downed trees on their property... they had a few neighbors that had more damage....
LOTS of damage in Memphis with three tornadoes on the ground. Three dead. Several large warheouses flattened, heavy damge to a Sears at one of the malls. Heavy damage also in Jackson, TN with Union Univ. 85% either damged or destroyed. 20+ trucks overturned on I-40 between here and Jackson. 24 dead in TN total. 8 in Arkansas.
We made it OK, but there were several deaths just a few miles East of here. I talked to Earl Schieb just a bit ago, he's OK too but won't have power for a while.
Here are some pics of Mountain View, AR... these were all taken within about 1/2 mile of my in-laws... http://www.flickr.com/gp/9996522@N03/10E5c0
doin good in cookeville, hartsville is about 40 miles away, a good buddy lost his brother in law and broke his sisters neck and ripped her finger off. i dont pray much but hope those that do will remember those affected, hope those in west tennessee stayed safe.
cool here in my lil part of southern kentcuky,, it looks like it went around us,but locally hit hard just a lil bit south and lil bit north east of us... was wondering if Earlschieb was ok,,heard that his pal Roger is ok too,but also without power,..
I was up and down last night with the sirens going off.It kinda felt like living in London during W.W.II.
yup,,it's hard to think about sleep when the sirens are going off.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23006771/?GT1=10856
Missed us in Birmingham, AL. Just a few little wind gust and light rain. Our southern buddies to the north were not lucky at all. Even with the warnings, they still had too many loved ones lost. Our hearts and prayers go out to them. Thanks for everyones concern! BOBBY FORD
Man, that was some nasty weather. Unfortunately a lot of people died, especially in Tennessee. Hope all here faired well. Looks like the some of those storms is heading our way now. It's 10 pm here and 65 degrees, wind is blowing hard, and I can see lightning off to the west. Just don't seem like February 6 and mid winter. Looks more like June. Will be hoping whatever it is goes around us. Praying for all those hit yesterday and last night in the south.
I also talked to Earl Schieb on the phone as well. Him and his loved ones are fine but friends of his have lost everything, home, shop etc. Thankfully his house, shop and Big Olds are ok, he's just without power and it could be a couple of days before it's restore. Tough to run a business without electric. Wishing him and the others a speedy cleanup and recovery.
prayers for those affected! anyone know if savannah [sp] TN was hit? have a dear friend there and he has a diff cell now, and i cant find the number thanks todd
Highland to the North of us and Mt View to the West got hit hard. The storm p***ed over Jonesboro with a lot of rain and high winds but no significant damage. Wife and I and our dogs spent about ten minutes in our "fraidy hole."
i was in lafayette TN today (MACON CO.) the news does not show how devestaing this storm was..... i was re-routed 45 minutes out of the way by officalls...meaning,,i DIDNT see the worst hit area,,,but what i DID see,,,i'am really at a loss for words as it was very devistating.... the best way i can even think to descibe it is..think of a lawn mower that is at least 1/4 of a mile wide,,,and then think of it mowing down EVERYTHING in its way for as long as the human eye can see....that is what i saw today.....no exaggeration.... watching it on tv really gives you now idea untill you actually se it first hand,,,,
I'm in west Nashville, we had golf ball sized hail, and some damaging winds in the area but no touchdowns really near me....although i think the folks over in Fairview about 5 to 10 miles away may have had some touchdowns. Being from this area we live through this all the time but it seems like folks in Jackson and areas north of Nashville can't catch a break. Some of the victims are literally just moved back into repaired houses from last years storms that hit north of Nashville.
we are fine in northern miss. sulligent alabama a few miles down the road got smacked pretty damn good from what we are hearing ..
As a catastrophe damage appraiser for a large insurance company, I've seen all kinds of weather related catastrophes...hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, hailstorms, monsoons, avalanches, etc. but the tornadoes are the worst. They're unimaginably violent and the sheer force that they pack is unreal. Wishing all the HAMB family in the SE the best.
