I bought a complete altered minus an engine and trans from a guy who bought it from a guy. The car was raced up until about four years ago so the ch***is needs a few upgrades to meet current specs (horizontal bar around the helmet area, ect.). Anyone know of a good shop in the so cal area that can do the work? Ideally they would be able to get it certed as well. Also, a boneheaded question: how can I tell mild steel from chromemolly? The ch***is is really well built and all the welds are tig. Thanks for any and all help, I really appreciate it.

The only positive way to determine c/m from mild, that I know of, requires a sacraficial piece of tubing, about a inch long- heat to cherry red-quench- smack it with a hammer- if it breaks into pieces it is c/m - if it just flattens out it's mild.
