Yesterday, I listed my favorite hot rod dashes of all time. Today, I thought I would open up my "Dashes - Inspiration" directory on my computer and throw up a few images th...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
It's all in the details... There's a great book titled "Dashboards" by David Holland (Phaidon Press 1994). It also features more than dashes, lots of detail shots of grilles, tail lights etc.
I hate it when my hardware isnt clocked still a very reliable way of knowing how much juice you got..simple and no false readings
Clocked hardware is so anal.......it looks too perfect...... The sight gauge looks similar to what is commonly used on hydraulic tanks..... The Porsche gauge layout is perfection......tach, front and center..... What's the gauge panel with the three ovals??? Chevy??? Durant??? Love those....
I'm wondering if that really is a fuel gauge or not. I can't tell from the picture but is that like a site glass where you see the fluid inside? If yes then it really resembles a gauge we had on a hydraulic reservoir tank at my dad's business, but should work like a gas gauge anyway. Typed to slow. Sinister beat me to it.
thats probably what it is..just used for a fuel level or maybe still a hyd. fluid level sight glass..guess it could be used for both.. that was why i was hopeful that Ryan would have the full picture.
The '39 Alpha is the cat's pajamas hand down. I always wanted to do a gated shifter but I am afraid that my talent would fall very short in creating something like that. My creation would probably yield miss thrown shifts leading to an overhaul on my engine.
I love the look of seriously old gauges but people price them like they have gold on the inside. I think it would be fun to make some old looking gauges though, by getting a custom gauge face printed and then "antiquing" it... I'm sure someone out there is printing custom gauge faces...
I can help you customize any set of gauges you may find! Check out my web page www.instrument-specialties.com Thanks Mike
Lots of inspiration all over the automotive world, one of the main reason I love going to Concours shows.
Could you guys please list some suppliers of restored/replica gauges? Have emailed the guys at Scott Speedometer in Pontiac Michigan but they don't seem to reply to emails. Any other places out there like this? Prefer to buy old rather than a new 'street rod' set as they seem to be labelled.
I always liked the Moto Lita style steering wheels like the four spoke wood one you posted. Even better if they have copper rivets holding the wood on.
I've always thought a great gas gauge for a motorcycle tank would be a tacked in fitting above the fuel level, and one at the bottom of the tank with a clear PVC hose clamped at either end to each fitting vertically. Assuming the tank is vented to atmospheric air, the amount of fuel in the hose would show the amount in the tank. ~Jason
Ryan, Great choices and ALL for different reasons! I'm partial to the Bugatti- especially the type 35:
Am I incorrect on reading Tatra on the guage? If so, perhaps this guage is from a Tatra, which would stand to reason with the ridiculous art deconess.
I'm admittedly biased, but its hard not to love the early Hudson "stepdown" dashes. Especially Commodore trim chrome column, dual glovebox, and faux wood.
Check out Classic Gages; they are an Alliance Vendor, and I expect to use them for some custom gauges for my Venus. http://www.classicinstruments.com/ Patrick
I'm sorry I'm too sick to go out in the barn and shoot some more stuff for you guys This is a very good start ..... in the mid-30 American trucks were fighting for customers ...... some wonderful dashs on Autocar and Diamond T Please don't forget 810/12 Cords
