I just scored a vintage Dixon 8000RPM tach and can't seem to find any details on them. It's the "Bonneville" model 300S. Anyone know if they require a sending unit? The tach has 3 wires (Green/Black/White). Any info is much appreciated
i too scored an old DIXCO tach. a BIG DADDY DON GARLITS one! i just played around on google until i found a lot a info. one guy was called, i think, tach man or something like that had a real informitve site with some allman brothers music playing in the back ground I THOUGHT YOU SAID "DIXCO" SORRY
I think this is the site your refering to. www.tachman.com/ Dont think he has any info on the Dixon tachs on the website but im sure he can help you out if it ends up not working. He fixed a factory tick tock tach I had in a chevelle a few years back.
If you are referring to "Dixco", it's a division of Ametek now, and doesn't produce retail automotive gauges any longer. From Ametek "VIS began as a privately held company called Dixson in 1964 designing, manufacturing and selling automotive and heavy truck gauges. Annual sales exceeded $20 million by 1994. In 1995, Dixson was acquired by AMETEK. AMETEK, Inc. (NYSE: AME) is a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annualized sales of more than $1.8 billion." I have a file about Dixson's history on the other system I can post tonight.
Damn you're quick to celebrate on the HAMB. I am guessing auction #360019200278. I had my bid up there but didn't quite make yours. Interested to see how that works out for you. I was not quite sure about the sending unit and 8 cylinder use. I was the last one to ask that question. Nice tach. I will have to find another one.
I run a Dixco 8k tach in my Buick, I picked it up at a swap meet for cheap a few years back, brought it home and wired it up. Works well, no sending unit needed. Power, ground, signal wire-done. I would have to look, but if I remember correctly-green is signal (to coil), black is ground, white is switched power.
