Can I run with full length headers no exhaust. Someone said that it would warp the valves. Idk. I will eventually run mufflers, but I want to do that last (after undercoating and paint)

After running your headers, you allow cooler air to flow up the tubes and into the ports on your heads. This process WILL warp your valves eventually. The greater the difference in temperature is, the worse the damage is. Another offering of my 2 cents only.

  4. I think you'll be just fine with that amount of run time.

If you think about it, full length headers is all that drag cars have and they don't suffer any negitive effects.....

does this 'theory' apply to short headers - like small zoomies or lake pipes?

except that they are constantly being rebuilt:) i think it mainlt short exhaust thatll cause this problem

  11. Don't worry about such silly things. I ran a motor with straight heads once. Man, they sure sound funny that way.

a WARPED VALVE? can't say i've ever seen such a thing and i've lost count of the engines I've rebuilt .Seen plenty of burnt valves and busted ones but it was all down to operator abuse.
    Open exhausts causing warping? nah!!

They do sound crazy with no manifolds at all, just eight exhaust ports barking. We ran an old SBC without exhaust manifolds for a very short time, but did buzz it up and down the street once. Hard to describe, but it's quite a funky popping sound.

You can run 'em without exhaust manifolds, but it's definitely the most likely to cause any damage, if damage can be done by cooling too quickly. I wouldn't recommend it, just in case. The one we ran with no manifolds was pretty much a piece of crap to start with, so we weren't concerned if any damage was done. Frankly, if the car would have caught fire from those 8 torches under the hood it would have just been more fun. Young and stupid can be very entertaining sometimes......

  18. Yeah, I ran mine with straight heads cause I was 16. To think of it, I think I'll excuse a lot of what I've done in life to the fact that I was younger than I am now. That way, it'll work year after year. But seriously, just run your pipes and worry about something else that might actually happen.

There is a vendor who sells stuff in Summit and Jegs who makes header collector inserts that are designed to be used with NO exhaust whatso ever
The baffles are inserted into the collectors and a rivet or 2 hold them in place while allowing you to run open headered without having the loudness/noise.

    Im looking for a link.
Car Chemistry is the name and I personally know the person/comapny who builds these.

Here are some Mustang Muffler replacements using the same inserts in a section of piping that totally replaces the muffler.
