  2. C4b is a good intake too , and has the front oil fill..i see them on ebay all the time. keep in mind you can not use an HEI distributor with either the C3B or C4B and only have room for a points style

to me they perform as good as the rpm do .hei will not fit. but you can buy a kit to change a points dis to a hei. for the original look. ran one on my 63 nova for a long time. until i got the 3 duce set up together.

I'm running an early model Edelbrock Streetmaster in my car, can't say that I have compared it to another intake on this motor though.

There is a 3CB Edelbrock in the HAMB cl***ifieds :)

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241532

Weiand also made a pretty decent aluminum intake with the oil fill tube for the SBC. Some of the old ones have " say whyand " on them. I prefer the Weiand over the Edelbrock just because it is more rare, everyone has the old Edelbrocks ( me included ), but I have the Weiand also :)

Offenhauser also made them with the oil tube.

I've bought several SBC Edelbrock or Weiand intakes off E-Bay also. I've gotten some good deals, and only one needed any thread repair; keep trying, you'll get one. That SoCal Speed Shop intake is PRICEY, $270.00! The Edelbrock for sale on here was a GOOD buy and CLEAN too. I sure hope it was'nt me who out bid you, I just bought another C3B Edelbrock.

I'm pretty sure that Edelbrock makes a new intake with a space to drill your own opening for the filler tube. I think it's their Performer series. I don't think the price is too bad, either. Do you necessarily want a vintage intake or would you be happy with a new one if it had the filler tube hole? I'm pretty well decided I'm going to go for the new one for my 283. I just want to make sure I'm in a good state of mind when I (gulp) start drilling the hole. Has anyone done this?

Good to know. I've always been told they simply don't fit. I love this old intake and they really add power-anyway so it seemed for me. Can you post a pic of your distributor mod?:)

  22. you can get a chrome one from jegs or summit , or at about any place like checkers , autozone or pep boys. they may have to order it . Mr gasket part # 2066 on the chrome filler tube and #2060 for a chrome push on cap

****ster on here makes a very nice ribbed aluminum one

If you can't find one, there are a few intakes that were made without the tubes, but had a place you could either knock out a plug, or drill for a tube. I have a torker with a flat spot made to drill.

  24. Those Edelbrock intakes came ith the oil filler tube to the right and others with the tube to the left. Chevy changed alternator position from the p***enger side to the drivers side at some time. Make sure ya' get the correct one for your application.

C-4B was first, it had 2 carb bolt patterns. Standard carb and Holley. Then came the improved version called the C-3B with a single bolt pattern for the Holley carbs. It also had a notch cut in the plenum divider to clear the long oval shaped rear ****erfly of the BIG "3-Barrel" carb.

  25. i have noticed that newer Edelbrock Perfromer intakes have the boss to drill out for an oil fill tube. i have older performer intakes on both my `28 and `36 and neither have provision for it. you can clearly see the area i'm talking about in this picture of a perfromer:

the edelbrock Perfromer RPM intake i have hanging on my wall also has it(sorry , no picture)

this is what modifieddriver is referring to , both are C4B's ...but you can see that this one oil fill will point to the drivers side

and this one will point to the p***enger side:

There was also a C3BX, it had a slightly different carb pad than the C3B.

I drilled a performer manifold for an oil tube on my dad's 34 about 10 years ago. I clamped the manifold to the drill press table and successively drilled it larger. A step drill would have been ideal in this situation rather than trying to drill with a 1-1/8" or whatever size drill bit I ended up using.
I usually don't care what vintage the manifolds are because I usually grind the markings off and paint them anyway. I would rather do that to a performer than the 340 hp corvette manifold that was on it before.
