I'm actually looking for some stories or photos about Jungle Jim, too. You see, my dad is Paul Parkey, and he used to work for Jungle Jim as a mechanic. He has no idea I am doing this, and really I don't know why I am either. He remembers that time fondly, and I was hoping I might be able to find some stories for him or some people he might know from that time. I think I found a picture of him online. Sorry if this too sounds cheesy, but I got caught up in the moment looking at all of your postings and all of those pictures. Thanks

WOW!!! I read the magazines and had the model kits but I didn't realize how many different cars he had and the different colors. Anybody know what the story with the blue and red cars is? I always thought his cars were just blue.

I'm going by memory and have the story somewhere. There were multiple cars and I think at one time 2 other drivers for him because it was impossible to cover all the dates. Being the ultimate showman they made sure the fans got to see "Jungle Jim" race at different tracks on the same day. The red thing was mentioned in the story but I can't recall the significance. That may have had something to do with it.

Now THIS is tradition at it's finest. A hearty thanks to all that posted the info.

My dad and his friend bought this car from JJ and campaigned it as the "Old & White" Chevy II. He has a couple of stories and I have some video of my dads car running @ Suffolk Raceway and I am pretty sure I have video of Jungles '69 nova running. I guess I should get off my *** and post the video on you tube.

Wrote to Pam a while back and revisted with her an evening I spent with Jungle back in the day. I was traveling with my SuperStock car and I ran into him and a group of the funny car guys down by the pool...about midnight. Had a ball shooting the **** and telling stories most of the night. All got really smashed.

Pam wrote me back a nice reply. Unfortunately she was not along on this trip. She would probably love to help you.

i got one ....second hand or handme down...
My father and uncles knew Jungle by ***ociation..they are friends with Steve Kanuika..
My "uncle" Bud tells a real early story of a trip he took (fla/daytona?) with Jungle and during the trip ..Bud smelled fuel around the trailer while they had stopped along the way..
Bud open'd the trailer to find ,,, a fuel can had spilled race fuel ....
it got all over Jims fire suit...
so they hung it out the back of the truck for the rest of the ride ..
when they got to the track ,, the suit still reek'd of fuel..
But in those early days..money was tight and those suits cost some big bucks..(the shiney silver fire suit)
besides they werent easy to come by with such short notice.
so Jungle..... just wore the suit anyway..
well...on the first test p***....after Jungle got out of the car.
he said his "family jewels where burning like crazy "from the fuel in the suit.
so on the next p*** he was "gonna do a shorter burnout"...so as to spend less time with the suit on...
Well,, Jim being the showman...when it was his turn to take the lanes..he stayed in it and did a hellacious burnout ,,,as usual..
Infact..Bud states it seem'd even longer than the first one..
but this time ....Jungle put it in reverse and made it back to the starting line in record time...
"He must have been going 100mph to get the car back to the staging line."
needless to say..because of the aformention'd issue with his suit....
Bud claims this is ,,in some part ,,, what created some of track antics Jungle was famous for...
    LONG smokey burnouts..
and Haulin *** in reverse to get it back to the line...
    Cheapst.

I think you're supposed to wear clean under-wear under those old fire-suits. :p
