We had the chance while in Cali for the GNRS to visit the latest ROTH FIND. It is now in a private collection waiting to be restored. He also has a ton of other Roth & Von Dutch stuff. Our first view of that part of this huge collection was the Honda Civic that Ed drove. This is what we came 1800 miles to see. I tried to get some different pictures than have been seen before. I think I got some angles that haven't been published yet. It sure doesnt look to me like it has really been neglected as long as they say. We had the chance to meet the brother and sister in law of the guy that got the car from Mexico and also ran into the man himself at the GNRS show on Sunday. The Sister in Law had the car in her garage for several weeks as there were too many people coming to her brother in law's warehouse looking for the car. I got the impression from her that not a whole lot of folks had physically seen the car. You can see where the tailight was mounted The Plaque in the foreground is supposedly the wording that Roth wanted on his Tombstone. You can plainly see that the nose had been cut off, prolly with a saw. The tips of the front fenders look more like they had been broken off rather than cut off. That's it for the long lost car. Here are some more pics of this small part of the collection. Maggie & I have each ridden in the Globe Hopper in Mound Minnesota when Mark owned it. The Rotar with a Rat Fink in the background and the Cycle, I'm having a brain fart and can't remember the name of that scooter. He has a lot of Von Dutch stuff, I was told most of it came from the auction that the Petersen had. A gl*** case with tools and a pool cue and a helmet as well as a couple of guns. Needs no description One of his fanciful machines His striped louver press and an original painting that has yet to be hung. I never did find out what the significance of this is. Looks like a bunch of toys. The rest of the collection consists of Ford GT 40's, Aston Martins, Shelbys and a lot of HI PO Mustangs and fords. It is also where they shot the Pimp My Ride series and there were some of those cars there too. I don't think that they would have much impact on a traditional board so I will not post them. Hope you enjoy these pics as we had a ball taking them. Bob
Geez, I thought it WAS a Ford dealership? Lots of money sitting there. Looks like it's all in good hands. Glad you got to see it. THanks for sharing!
Nope, sorry, I don't. I thought that I had a picture of it but I must have been to excited at being there and blew it. Maybe someone on here know what it says. I know the sister in law( I'll be damned if I can remember her name) showed me a pic of just the sign at the bar in the hotel. **** I just remembered her brother in laws name, Mike. Getting old ****s BB
Ron: It is a Ford dealership but this is the Auto Sport Section accross the street from the Ford Store. He has a bunch of other stores all along that street. The front of this shop is a sales room with all kinds of wheels and **** to pimp your late model ride. See you at Hot Rod & Restoration? We will be there Thursday through Sunday. Gotta hook up with GMC Bubba and pick up some junk. BB
Bob, We definitely need to hook up while you are in town! Bubba's Garage is more fun than the show itself. Let me know your plans and I'll make it a point to actually stay in town for a day!
Bob, It was nice to meet you at the GNRS as brief as it was, thanks for the heads up on this I heard it was over there but did not know it was on display. I need to drop by and check it out. CBB
I never did find out what the significance of this is. Looks like a bunch of toys. I dunno either but there is a bunch of cool stuff in there.
I believe the headstone says "Won a few, lost a few" then has dates on it. It's in the book "Ed Roth, his life, times, cars and art." Jay
Bob, thanks for the photos. Isn't it the latest R & C that has a complete story on the car and how the guy found it and got it back across the border? As you can see, getting old does **** as evidenced by my CRAFT syndrome!!! See you in March, I hope. John
Nope John, I think it's the latest Hot Rod unless R & C did one also. Too bad you won't be there early enough to make the GM tour. BB
Yeah I know Mikey, I am so old that when I went to school, we didn't have history yet, it was called current events. BB
Thats so cool!! Its funny you admit getting old ****s, if I am half as cool as you are when I get that age, it will be fine...LOL!
Did anybody else figure out that this it the guy who bought the car: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQs***ZmegQ2dliteQQfrppZ100QQfsopZ2QQfsooZ2QQrdZ0
Very cool pictures, thanks for posting them. Should leave the orbitron the way it is I think. Leave it "original"
I remember that, it's just how we built it, Damn romans vandalized it and stole some of the rocks for their aqueduct. BB
I mentioned in the opening post on this thread that the car is now at the same place that was used in the filiming of Pimp My Ride. There has been a comment made to the effect that. I hope the folks that did that show don't get their hands on this icon and **** it up. Or something like that. Although we did not get to see Bo on this trip, I think that the chances of that happening are SLIM & NONE. These folks, and Bo himself are hard core hot rodders and racers. The family has been in the car business for 2 generations and have been racing for that long also. They have sponsered Drag Cars, Stock Cars & Road Race cars in some of the biggest and best know events in the country. They are true lovers of both Dutch & Big Daddy as evidenced by the collection they have am***ed. The Orbitron will be restored as it should be and I'm sure that the folks who know a lot about the car will be involved in the process. I am anxious to see it in all it's glory soon. I am grateful that we got to see it in the present state and that we were allowed to share the pictures. BB
I want to hear the one about Bob in his "Fronty" Ford racing Ma Barker for pinks! *How legends get started...?
