By the end of this week, I'll be in the running. Daytona is kicking our ***. Just finishing up putting a front end, right side and fenders on a car and they hit the wall with another. Can't fix one before another gets beat all to hell.

I know what you mean. I really do admire the top builders. Granted, most have a shop full of ALL the right tools to do the job right. But just owning the tools definitely won't guarantee a great result-talent still plays the biggest part.

It just does amaze me when I read posts from guys cutting out brackets with a sawzall all day, and they still turn out an amazing end result. Cool & inspiring for sure

I think it takes both sides of the dime to push the industry. As much talent, not to mention deep pockets, that it takes to make a *****in hotrod, whatever the style, I think vision is the key element. That's why so many low buck builders have the heads-up, we can see things just a little different. With more problem solving and less part ordering. Don't get me wrong, I am just as impressed by Foose or Troy T. as I am with some shop slave ,like me, bangin away nights and weekends. My dad has always leaned towards the "Foose styled" rods and just walks by those "rusted turds" as he calls them. Not to long ago I was checking out Kirk Brown's 42 pick-up (last months Rod & Custom) and my dad was admiring the rear suspention. When he looked up at me as said "you know thats pretty tricked out, you could have called Heidt's and had it done with quick, but this really took some thought and engineering! I think he might be switching sides:D Who knows, I'm just rambling:rolleyes:

Amen! Politics aside. Anyone who can build should atleast be respected, anyone who is good should be admired, anyone who can make a living at it a just plain lucky, in my book....

The guy who ran Linken Mfg in Oakville Ontario
is probably as good as you will find anywhere.

Not many hot rod builders have their SFI welding ticket, can design and
build race suspension that work properly, and machine all their own parts.

Last I heard,he now works at Legendary in Milton.

Jim Bailie is up there, but he concentrates on sheetmetal.

The ones that should be admired are the ones that share their knowledge and experience with others.

I think this about nails it. I don't bother to look under your average, very tidy street rod. You know exactly what your going to find because you've seen it a thousand times. Nothin' new. But I'll always look under and in and around an oddball or obviously homebuilt rod because you never quite know what little trick you're going to find. The sort of ideas you see on the HAMB are what it is all about. You won't see them on a '32 belly ****on. About the only other place you will see that trick stuff is on the one-off high dollar Foose built Rods...the finish is just usually a bit nicer. For me it's the idea and the general style more than the finish.

That weas probably because you were relying more on your intuition than the tools. ;)

Truthfully, that's what happens. It's kinda weird.
