Stud-bucket;'23 studebaker modified....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nostalgia59, Feb 10, 2008.

  1. My friend Keith Tucker has been working on his modified project so I thought I'd post some pics. He found a 1923 Studebaker touring and a 1922 Cleveland frame. Body is narrowed 6" in front and 3" in the back. The frame rails are flipped end for end so the kickup is in front now. It will be running a built flathead, Lasalle trans, '36 rearend, kelseys on '32 spindles mated to an early Dodge axle and a cut and narrowed '34 Chevy grille. Dash is a narrowed '29 Hudson and windshield will be a boat style or possibly handmade. We nicknamed the car Stud-bucket. Check out the handmade shackles/hangers.....

Looks like a cool car in the build. I'm certainly no expert on building cars but if it were mine, I'd have a look to see if I could run that tierod above the springs.

Those spring perches are cool. Don't be surprised if you see gussets like that somewhere else.

When he gets to the engine let me know if he could use a Stude V8. I've got them from here to Texas!

  11. Remember this is just the first mockup, the tierod will be tucked up just below the springs to clear the engine and radiator. Keith is an accomplished builder so the car will be mechanically and aesthetically correct besides being '40's period. The grille will be sectioned 5-6 inches and positioned for a pleasing hood line. This will be a stand out car..........

Both Keith and his late father Kenny are/were good friends of mine. Keith is a real craftsman and has a great eye . I'am proud to know both of them.

Very interesting front end setup. What springs did you use on that Axle? Oh! great project.

  15. I think he used the front springs from the Cleveland frame. They are pretty long, should ride good..L.B.

Make sure you take it to a Stude meet. You'd be surprised how many folks will dig it.

  24. Ummm......... Wow! How the fuck did I miss this, this is awesome. The chassis reminds me of Ralph Schenck's Modified.
