Hey guys, I just recently picked up my first Model A project car... Ive wanted a 5 window coupe since I was 13 and finaly after 8years I have one in my posesion. The build well be a lil slow at first, but I well update frequently with pics... Any input from you guys is greatly apreciated! Thanks! --- TIKIMAN 2/5/08 Here it is, 1929 Model A (Special Coupe) 2/9/08 So heres the first update, got the car all apart and almost ready for some blasting. The frame and suspension has all been sold, and the motor/****** is going into my boss's 65' Ranchero. Im going to blast the car this week and see what lies beneath the paint... But so far so good, no rust, rot or cancer!!
WTH happened to it? Looked like it got into some kind of wreck the way the front fenders and the roof is damaged. Looks like a great start now though
Well the orignal owner told us he had a seizure and crashed into a ditch, spun around and landed on the driver side with p***enger wheels in the air. Its in really good shape though, and he was ok!! Plans right now are to fix any of the body damage there is, keeping the color and body plans hush hush right now but it well be channeled 4", original firewall back in and the hole in the roof well be left open... Gonna run a 327sbc/powerglide combo, 9" ford and hopefully all on a frame built by Bob Bleed.
HaHa! Im with both of you... This car well never look like that again, trust me guys!!! I sold off just about everything that screamed street rod... Not my style!! Thanks for the comments!
Damn. My car was originally a special coupe that somone did a hack job on to make it a regular coupe. I was planning to go back to the special coupe setup when I get to that point... and yours is the same color combo I had planned. The black in this pic is just spray paint. I had trouble finding a pic of a chopped special coupe, especially a black/white one, so I just spray bombed it to get an idea of what it would look like. - Matt
i'm curious why you ditched the ch***is... other than tire/wheel and the front disc brakes, what made it so "street rod"
The frame really wasnt "street rod", but it was tweaked from the acident and would need alot of work to clean up the boxing job and all the welds that were done on it... Just decided to sell it and start fresh! Thanks Evel! Im having a blast with it... Gathering parts as we speak! Thanks for the help!!
Good choice...I have learned in a hurry its no fun cleaning up someone elses mess. Dad and I chased our ***es around my 50' for a few months...now when we come accross anything close to questionable we cut it off...much easier to do it right than to try to polish someone elses screw-ups.
Thanks for sharing your new project, sounds like a plan. I will keep this one on eye for sure! --mika
No updates as of yet guys, I have the body completely stripped and ready for blasting, at the same time im collectiing some parts... Shooting to have the car ready for Hot Rod Revolution in September!! More pics soon!!
Another damn chevy in a ford?? Hemi, SURE! Nailhead, SURE! Sbc, BARF! But hey if it's what you have, then get to it!!! Looks like you are off to a good start! James
I don't understand why it matters. I used to be caught up in that whole thing too...But who cares. There have been tons of cool fords with SBCs in them. It doesn't make it anyless of a hot rod. The performance will be there and as long as it doesn't have billet valve covers with heart beat etchings in them it should look the part too. These SBC swaps started nearly 50 years ago. If that' not traditional...
Nice project, I dont think its the tradition of the SBC its more the street rodder ideology that has built up around them. They represent the 'bolt on' shiney bits and not the toiled for basis of real hotrodding. But...... then you get the 'done to death' argument about the flatmotor. I dont give a rats ****, Id rather see a flattie in every car than a SBC in some of them.
Hey Tikiman, Finally got my Special Coupe running: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272564&showall=1 Any updates on yours? -Jeremy
