Congrats John, EXCELLENT metal work, sure the car may not fit this site, you didn't build it to please the H.A.M.B you built it to please your customer and thats what matters most. ~S

  2. It's got NSW plates on it though. ;)

  3. Competing in car shows is the exact polar oposite to what the HAMB is about... so who gives a **** about this show, or that show or the stupid ****ing trophy *****s... I mean, no offense Mr. Time-Bomb John, but hey... to most guys on the HAMB, it's about building and driving your own hot rod... not racking up awards and getting pissy when you don't win.

    Sam.

I think he's just trying to relay the message of what direction the car hobby is going. Most guys don't build cars for awards, but when something wins that doesn't seem deserving,it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Most Beautiful Custom,NO WAY! Best craftsmanship...yea,probably. The guys who chase after awards, have their cars built! Most don't plan driving them anyways...

  5. Great workmanship, wrong car, wrong site for it...

That being said, I hate it personally....bilngfest and a waste of a Merc imo....to each their own.

Thats car proves ya can't BUY taste or style even though you CAN buy the workmanship, at least to me anyways....

Just got home from Sac. I met Mercury Charlie and we booed when they called out the wimnner. Charlie found in the Judges Book where it says must be a "Traditional Custom". Looks like they missed it again. I say Charlies Merc should have won it all.

Baggy needs to be stripped of his rights to pick a winner from the top 3 points cars because he has missed it more times then he has hit it.

We were dissapointed to lose especially to merculeas, I would have felt better if sweet nadine won ( mercury charlie's car ) but hey thats how this **** goes, cars get picked based on points that mainly have nothing to do with points then some senial old man picks something from the 3

Charlie's Merc isn't my favorite, but it kicks that ones ***!!! AND it falls into the requirements of the award. That's funny! I can totally see Charley booing,LOL!!! If thay would've called out Charley's name,I bet NOBODY would have booed!

  9. Hey Sam I don`t give a flying **** for trophies or winning anything, other than the accolades from real people.Mercury Charlie, John D`Augustino,Zombie, and all the other guys who signed my guest book was win enough for me.This is my first time with this car on the west coast and I drive it everywhere back home. Who cares about rock chips and stars on my rear fenders.......I don`t.
My trophy is all the comments etched in writing from people who are plugged in to the traditional style.Gambino`s boys came by and wrote some great things in my guest book about the car. That my friend is way better than a name on a trophy.Plus I have about 45 pages of peoples comments on the car. That`s my trophy. I don`t need a podium....Thank you very much....Time Bomb John
Mercury Charlies Car would have been my pic......He was PISSED RIGHT OFF.

    No offence SamIyam Time-Bomb John

Yet you didn't correct my spelling? Ha ha. Which is still wrong!

FantaC , great work, pity about the customer's wishes. (A REAL pity)

And shows? See, this is the thing, even when there are rules, they still screw things.

When Best Custom went to a Blown,'34 Ford Coupe,Hotrod,I was done with judges. I know the guy who owned the car and asked him,"if they called your name for Best Mini-truck,would you still go accept the award? You have no dignaty!".

  14. My vote would have gone to Mercury Charlie all the way. Killer car and a decent Kustom guy.I was parked all weekend across from Mercules and was trying to figure out why it had no door gl*** and air brushed side trim???. Maybe a fairweather car.
Forgot to mention that Blackie invited the roadster to his show. Now there is a car guy with a ton of stories. In fact he was the first one to sign the book.Kool experience, one I will never forget. TBJ

The workmanship in the car is fantastic and shows in FantaC's album but the car is just does not appeal to me.

It pretty well shows that who ever did the actual design work on the exterior did it with a judging sheet pinned on the wall. "I can get 5 more points if I add two of these _________________ to it.

And as several said, when you work for the public and they have to be able to come up with the big bux to afford your work they get to choose what gets done.

  19. pete, im from melbourne, i drive a 66 falcon everyday and have a 53 chev ex-four door that im working on, the comment i made was light hearted at best, chill out, i watched the build in my brothers copies of street machine, and to be honest i admire the work and effort to get that car to where it is, just dont really like the finished product. didnt mean to ruffle your feathers.

Got to agree with Sam here. Hell will freeze over before a HAMB style car wins a major at those type of shows and anyone who thinks otherwise just has to look at the history of showcars. Just look at some of the **** that Barris and the like shoved out to win awards. Both the current cars involved are just the latest step in a long journey that we can't really get our heads around because it is so foriegn to how we see Rods and Customs.
Time-Bomb........I respect your car but if you want to play with those guys you have to do it their way. I can't really see why you're disapointed as surely you realised before you started that your car just doesn't fit as far as Judges go.
A very famous American poli***ian used to have a sign above his desk that read "Those who have the gold make the rules". Somewhat appropriate when it comes to these shows.

They managed to make a Merc look like a 50s Chevy truck in the front end, ugh the humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Built well enough to compete and win… not trad but that style is popular with big dollar car show guys. John’s work is outstanding and he is 100% car guy. I hope he will do a trad rod or custom one day, and I'm sure it will be a credit to his workmanship.

and thats pretty much what the local rag down here drums into its readers.... it tries to do it subtly but im not convinced they do a good job of it...

I think it is great that someone built what they wanted and then took it across the world to compete. i am sure it was a dream of his and now he has accomplished that.

Sure it has modern stuff, but look at it from the other point of view...

Yah and Charlie Manson thought he was an artist.....but what he did was STILL wrong.

Mercury Charlie builds BEAUTIFUL cars....that thing is HORRID.

Once an Aussie said, that thing looks like cat **** smells. Being an Aussie car, I think it's only appropriate that it's said again.

  27. Hey Bookz I didn`t go to the show to play with the big boys at all.Coming from the Grand National Show a few weeks earlier and being an AMBR contender was alot of fun. I certainly have no desire to play with the big boys if I have to compromise STYLE and TASTE.
My mission was accomplished and a dream come true. To be selected for both categories is a mission few cars ever get a chance to do.I`ve done it and it`s over. My last show will be the L.A. Roadster Show in June with my wife and my son[18 months] old. I`m driving through the gates with them, taking a picture, then going home the next day.Mission accomplished.....Time Bomb John

  30. I've seen a lot of mercury's and it takes balls to build one that isn't Barris styled.
Bailon built alot of wild cars that would never be in my garage
DeRosa, Cushenbery, Starbird, post 1960 Barris all **** in my book, Bubble top car are in a cl*** of there own and don't have to answer to critic's
I wouldn't own that merc, but will say it has the best planned and executed interior I've ever seen in a custom. I'd never be able to judge I am biased by tradition.
