Does anyone know where I can find a polished aluminum finned oil pan for a big block chevy? Seems like they make them for everything else. All help is appreciated! Thanks

Make that 2 please.............. I posted a want ad in the hamb wanted section a week or so ago. No response. I spent some time on a google search too with no luck. I think the only way to get one for a bbc is to fight for it on that big auction site. Last one sold there for way more than I wanted to spend. I may have to step up to big money to get one. one thing to keep in mind. If your going to run it on the street in a low car the pan won't dent if s****ed it'll break.

There used to be a company that carried these and i think it was called Springfield streetrods? I can't remember for sure, but does anyone know what happened to them? They used to have them for sale for $475 (kinda pricey) but they seemed to have gone out of business right before I needed one. Story of my life.

They probably went out of business because they were trying to sell oil pans for $475! :D

That's no ****! You can get these anywhere for about $90 for a small block.

  8. They are Mercury Marine oil pans is what I've been told. I've seen them at swap meets in the $100 range once in awhile. They are fairly deep although I don't remember the dimension and hold 7 or 8 quarts. Clearance can be an issue as Phat Rat points out.

The one that I ran across (that they didn't have) was same dimensions as stock, just finned aluminum. And I shouldn't have any clearance issues, already thought about it. I've been searching for about 2 years and haven't seen another one. I can't believe that Speedway or Streamline doesn't offer these. They carry everything else!

  10. One thing to keep in mind is that virtually all the aftermarket "finned" cast pans have no oil control whatsoever...at most, they have a little "diffuser", but nothing to keep the oil in the pan during even a moderate deceleration. Plan on looking at a stock pan and fabricating a similar baffle around the pickup. ;) Dunno about those Mercury pans, that's not really aftermarket in the true sense, and I imagine they take fairly great pains with oil control....or should.

  11. I'm sorry, I was commenting on the one in the eBay link. As I recall there is no baffle in them.

I've never seen any other BBC cast finned aluminum oil pans, but that just means I missed it.

No problem, I appreciate your help:), wish I never would have seen it either, just made me want one. I think maybe it's time for me to put it to rest and just paint the pan that's on it :( , although it would've been nice to get a shiny pan for it.

if you have a lowered car steel is the way to go aluminum cracks or puts a hole in it steel bends. look at the bottom of your oil pan any s****es or dents if so maybe think twice about an alum one. (no oil no run so good)

More than enough ground clearance, already taken that into consideration, the car does not sit low - at all, and I don't forsee ramping it - unless I drink too much - which I can't be held responsible for my actions when I have been drinking- I just really am looking to get one of the cool polished finned aluminum oil pans.
