In 1958 Pontiac did a special Bonneville convertible upholstered with 11 African leopard pelts. Oh, yeah.

To each, his own. Animal hides, faux or real, are not something I would want in any of my cars, but some people are bolder and more flamboyant than I am.

I don't really have problem with Indian blankets. Lot of people use them when either their seats are well worn or if they are just protecting their interiors. Definitely not for all cars, and too much would be super tacky.

As to the "Maltese Crosses" , the design is not true to the actual Maltese Cross which has 8 points. In any case, regardless of design correctness or not I don't find them overly appealing and especially not so for a rear window design. Now as a part of a club symbol or dragging plaque, my opinion may be different. JMO

  11. Didn't read the whole thread if someone else thought of this, but I thought it was only trad on ladies' lingerie and bathing suits.

Oh yeah, and in Tarzan movies.

  12. My Dad had a 1935 Ford 5 window back in the late '40's/early 50's with leopard skin interior. It was from Jingletown(Oakland,Ca.)and burned to the ground while he was oversea's in the Korean war..nice thing to come home to...huh?

  13. My mom wears leopard print underwear, so any interior that reminds me of Mah's drawers is not my fave..

  14. My first ever rod, a 27 T tourer running fenderless on an A chassis had leopard rugs for seat covers. This was in 64-65, so I guess that's traditional.

I think it's more of a fashion thing than a Traditional one, but it has it's place.

What sucks is when stuff comes in and goes out, 5 years ago leapard was cool, now it isnt, and the maltesse cross thing, well it just got so trendy becuase everyone thought it was cool that it got trashed.

animal prints afaik were cool in the 50's, afaik animal prints, mohair, angel hair and nuagahyde materials were used, i dont know if naugahyde brand was only used or if all brands of vynil just got called naugahyde and i dont know what a naugah is, we didnt even have that brand here in australia.

i have noticed leapard in early magazinesand movies, "the choppers" is one movie that comes to mind.

i havent seen mexican blankets but from what i here they rally did use them too.

as for rockabilly, i prefer surf, i like hot rod music too but rockabilly is cool, i like rockabilly in the country and surf on the coast when i cruise.

seems rockabilly is not trendy anymore in the hot rod scene so even if you liked it before you got a car you have to change taste and be into what is now trendy in the scene so throw away all those cd's and records and buy some micheal jackson and mc hammer and grow some long hair or look for a nice modern trendy hairstyle.

will spice girls and green day write songs about hot rods and customs for you, i doubt it, I think this is the new scene- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZBQwHd_1Vo
