got myself a straight six 292 for my 50 chevy fleetline. here are a couple of pictures. the casting number is 328578. from what i hear these 292s can easily be made to be quite enjoyable this motor was used to pump water in some sort of facility. now i need to get the transmission etc.
Absolutely! Good news is that any trans that bolts to a SBC will bolt to this motor too. Got any plans for mods on the motor you care to share? Leo Santucci just got one of these BMF's past 1000hp (!) recently...not that I'm suggesting anything...
That is one nice score! I got the "Cheverolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Mnaual" By Leo Santucci for my 292 . Fantastic book! Recomended reading ,Lots of info from Mild to WILD!!
when i was in high school i knew a kid who had an old 67 chev truck with a 292 in it and a four speed with the granny low gear in 1st. damn that truck could lay rubber
The book is a great place to start reading up on what can be done with it.After that it's all in your minds eye as to what you want to do with it.Any tranny from sb or BB willl bolt up to it(OD or other wise)you will no dout need to make your own motor mounts. There are after market goodies out there New and Used. ex. intakes( 1 4b 2 4b 3 1b Or build your own),exhaust, Valve covers ,side covers now and then,Alum water necks/Thermo housing.

i put a 292 in my '53 a few years back. i documented the fab'ed motor mounts and made some helpful notes. here are the dim's on the mounts -pm me if interested

Never had a 292, that would of been nice. did have a 235 in my 1950 fleetline. I sure miss the rap from the split manifold and straight pipes. Good times.
Welcome to the 292 brigade. This one is headed into the 48 as soon as I get the chassis squared away. The plan is to decorate it out to look like a rodded early engine.
turns out hte motor i got was frozen solid. so i got another one. has anyone mounted one of these into 1950 chevy? any tips on the mounting of this motor would be great. i am going to use a 5 speed t5 from a 1989 s10. thanks mike
inlinners forever. im a new guy here but my son has been looking on the web site for about half a year and he didnt see many straight six things. But really nice score. What are you going to do with it, mild or wild? Have fun
I know several younger guy's building ol'e Chevys useing 235s. I think theres still hope for our younger hot rodders
A number of years ago their was a beginners class of sprint cars running in Jackson South Dakota that were req. to run 6 cyl. On a saturday night race there would be 30 to 40 cars running. The sound of that many 6's running open headers wide open throttle was just awesome! I"ll bet there are still a lot of parts laying around in that area. Try contacting Speedway Motors. In the 60's my family ran a 1/4 mile oval in Winnipeg Canada that ran 6's in their "stock" class. When they switched to V/8's a lot of the cars were sold up north in Thompson Manitoba Canada. Problely not much left of them, if any. If I remember correctly 283 pistons can be fitted to the bad old 6 Good Luck!! Rocket Ride.
