I will warn you now, This is going to be a long post

I am wondering if anybody has ever run into this before, back in June 2007 I bought a 1941 Ford truck cab and doors for like 60 bucks from a friend of mine with the intensions of building a Ruddy, bobber, rat-rod whatever you want to call it truck, I contacted the person from our Motor Vehicle branch and when he saw it he told me "make it look like a truck and no problem getting a reg. for it".

Fast forward to Jan. 27th, 2008, the truck now has a 2x4 frame,,a 6" chop and a 5" channell, engine is still undecided but it looks like it is going flathead, it is starting to look like something and about 65-70% complete, Got ahold of the Motor vehicle again to see if I can get my Reg.. Now the story is because it doesn't have a serial number it now has to be registered as a 2008 Ford Truck and has to comply with all of the laws for that year of vehicle, not for what it actually is,,a 1941, so now I need cat converters and alot more other thing that I don't even want to think about, even if I run a flathead in it, not sure how the motor will like the cat converters

They said if i have a Reg. from another truck I can use that but all the ones I find are on U.S. vehicles and I have been told that can make for a whole new disaster trying to do it that way

I live in New Brunswick in Canada, Has anybody anywheres ever run into this?

I am hoping to find somebody from out west, Alberta, B.C. or anywheres in Canada to get a V.I.N from then I would be all set,,anybody out there know where there is a 1941-1947 Ford truck?,,all I need is the glove box door, that is where they say the serial number is that I need.

Would a 50+ year old flathead p*** emmisions?

  5. I tried looking at the website for New Brunswicks Department of Transportation, boy what a mess. See what it takes to register a kit car or special construction vehicle.

  6. Email this guy: goldenoldies@sasktel.net about a ***le. His name is Pat O'Connor. He deals in vintage tin.
    He's in Saskatchewan.

I have been on their site and from what I understand is that ANY vehicle that need a new V.I.N number the year that the car is registered will be the year of it on the reg. doesn't matter if it is a T-bucket or a Lambo kit car.

I will definately be checking out the guy in Sask. forsure

    thankyou

  8. He's a good guy. Got a rustfree door for my 56 chev from him for a really smokin deal. I hope he can help as it would be the easiest.

try going to the local courthouse judge and ask him legalize the tranfer, or go and geta mechanics lien fully processed throught the judge, it works sometimes.

  10. With a modern ignition system{msd or similar} an apropriate sized AND adjusted carburetor{or carburetorS} ,a pcv system instead of a road draft tube , any engine in good mechanical condition should be made to p*** MOST emissions standards. An after market cat. for any similar sized engine combo would go almost un-noticed horsepower wise. just my two cents worth.
good luck on the ***le search. Another thing would be to check online about what your ACTUALLY REQUIRED to have for registration by "the book". Not some partialy informed beurocrat who only thinks he knows what he is talking about. You might be suprised what happens when you know more than "they" do!:D

Hey, that makes me wonder about what i just bought. My new project is a 1929 Model a coupe with of course no ***le. I have talked to several guys here in new brunswick about this... there are a lot of hoops to jump through i know that. Before i get too much money tied up I am going to try and find a ***le for a 1929 model a of some variation. Good luck. There becomes an issue also when the engineer has to come certify that it's road worthy prior to MVI stage. There is only one guy in the province ( I believe), from what i have heard he doesnt like straight axles - they arent strong enough to support a car - but if you buy new stuff - with engineering support if you need to prove somethings structural entegrity you should be ok on that end. Send me a note if you find anything out.

I think I know where you can get a reg for a 29 or 30 Model A,,know anyplace where there is an old ford truck,,like I said all I need is the glovebox door with the serial number on it

  18. All I ever did was find a number on the truck or car and give all particulars on paper to a justice or judge and sign an afidavid to the effect that I bought this VIN blah blah for x amount of dollars from this dude who has had it forever. I sign that and take it to the licence office who type up and enter the info and give me an ownership in unfit. The odd time they want an appraisal.....

I don't suggest buying a ***le from one of these "***le" guys who show up at swap meets and advertise in some publications and on line.

That said I have in the past bought what were basically s**** hulks because they had a clear ***le and the proper matching vin tag. Then there is no worry about the paperwork backfiring on you later. Said truck could just be a large truck like a 1-1/2 ton that you "only" used the cab from.
