When we were at Monkeys parental units for his party they had a Jackson Brothers DVD playing with drag racing clips. One of the strips really interested me. What I found interesting is that the track appeared to run slightly down hill and the shutdown lane seemed to run up hill. Not entirely sure why this has stuck in my head but I'd like to see if anyone knows which track it is so I can look for more info.... THANKS!
Could be Byron dragway near Rockford IL. I think Lakeland International in Memphis TN had an uphill shutdown aria also.
I watched a video at nick32vic's house that had a track kinda like that. It was an old track in MO or IL I think. You might PM him, I can't remember the name.
Come to think of it, I think the Mile-High in Bandimere, Colorado is that way. Any hills/mountains in the shot?
Jangleguy runs a a track like that out in Oregon. Also, there was a thread or two about some East coast track in the same config. The thread was about 2 weeks ago.
I did a google search on the list here and Byron is the one I was after. Rockford Illinois? I was born in Woodstock, IL. Maybe some strange connection is why it stuck in my head enough to ask... Thanks guys!
If it is a Jackson Brothers video it is Sears Point raceway up here in Sonoma CA. Which video is it? Is it "Front Engine Fueler"? I think the race on that video is the Jim Davis Memorial Drags... at Sears... now Infineon Raceway. On that video there is some footage of old races... then they cut into Newstalgia events... then back to the old stuff, I think. FWIW, the NHRA allows a 1% slope so that is a little over 13 feet slope from start to finish. Sam.
Yeah, I have one of those older Jackson Brother's tapes and I'm pretty sure what you're talking about is Sears Point in Sonoma, CA, now called Infineon Raceway unless they changed the name again. But I still call it Sears Point. That tape also has a lot of film from the old Fremont Dragstrip (east bay area, california). I had been to both of those tracks a bunch of times, so it was easy to recognize them. And they have some really old stuff from the Half Moon Bay dragstrip I think too. Those Jackson Bros tapes are pretty cool. They're mesmerizing, and you can just watch them over and over. The Sears Point drag strip is pretty level, but it goes uphill just after the finish line, which could give the illusion that the racetrack goes downhill depending on what angle you see it by. It's not the same as it used to be though. They put the grandstands far away from the track, so you don't get much of the cool nitromethane watery eyes and thunder in your chest like you used to in the old days in the cheap seats facing the sun right there by the starting line.
Bristol Tennessee runs down the up to the right some. Bandimere MileHigh in Colorado runs down hill and has an uphill shut down from what I remember.
Chili, wouldn't "Sears" Point be name branding the track to begin with? Or does that have nothing to do with the retail chain?
must be a hell of a lot of strips set up the same way , laplace motor speedway now defunct was similar to the drag strips described..
the track you would have seen at nick's was mid-america raceway, in wentzville, mo. it had a substantial rise in the shut down area...
