My car was featured in a short film recently, sine then I've been thinking about this. Just don't want to come out with a movie that makes us all look like douchbags, make our hobby become to mainstream ( more then it is already anyway). Then we would definetly have alot more douchbags trying to get into "the scene"
Agreed, but the ones who are here for passion will be in it forever. The fad guys will come and go and then we will buy their old shit cheap if its not too cobbled up!!! We're gonna go from building original A's and what not to salvaging half ass piles in the future!
Cool script, Courier, Courier New, 12 point font for the industry standard typeface, non-proprtional, any ten characters will measure an inch width. Typewtiter style, and remember one page equals one minute of screen time! I hope to see it some day!
Is there anything you are not into Jim? Sounds interesting and I wish you all the luck to see it completed. I will gladly pay to see it.
Jim- I think it sounds good. Great idea and good luck with it. I wish I was closer and could lend a hand if you needed it. Whatever happened to Favreau's hotrod movie project? I guess he's been busy working on "Iron Man"....
Sounds good to me,I always wanted to make a hot rod movie. Can I be the one to drive the shit out of Larry's car? Always wanted to be a stunt man too. By the way,What ever happened to the girl that was making a movie on hot rods that was always on here?
Nah, that will never happen- and don't expect any "sexy" pictures of me at Bonneville But here is another scene I really like. Flashback to WWII- and an evil greater than even the worst known enemy. Terry is the older mechanic from the Baily family garage. TERRY That you, Skip? SKIP Hi, Terry. TERRY Where you going? SKIP Just walking. TERRY You gonna take that job? We could use the help. Skip walks over to the dark porch. SKIP Look, Terry, I need a job, I need a car and I want to be able to surf a couple days a week. Is that too much to ask? TERRY No. No, it's not. (beat) You know, standing there in the dark like that you look just like your grandpa Vic when he was 16. SKIP So? TERRY So nothing, I guess. Hell, your dad and Buck acted just like Big Vic, but you look just like him is all. SKIP You guys grew up together, didn't you? TERRY Right up to the end. SKIP I didn't know you were in the Army. TERRY Army Air Corps. I was in Europe with him. When the war started he went where the fastest things the Army had were planes. (beat) Vic was a key guy getting the Merlin engine into the '51. He got it a 100 mph faster than the Allison jobs. (beat) We both joined and signed up for aviation cadets. Somehow he made it inspite of his age. Hell he was almost 40. I was a line mechanic. SKIP He was shot down there over Germany? TERRY Some might say murdered over Germany. Germans didn't shoot him down. SKIP Who did? Terry settles in to tell the story, A montage of WWII pilots, mechanics, planes and flying accompany. TERRY (VO) Don't know. But this is what happened. Vic hadn't been at it very long, his third mission. It was late December 1944. Vic was assigned to the 66th fighter squadron, known for the most kills and the least casualties. (he lights his pipe) I had just gotten transferred there and the claxon goes off late that night and scrambled the pilots. (beat) See there had been an unidentified enemy squadron reported here and there in the European theatre, downing entire groups of planes; bombers and fighters alike were destroyed mercilessly. They called it the "Demon Squad." Killed Germans and Brits and our guys. Didn't matter. SKIP That's crazy. Who were they? Russians? TERRY Nope. They were allies then. Nobody knows who they were. They just killed anything flying. Day or night. (beat) Our guys took after the Messers and the fun began. Then out of nowhere, some more planes swoop in from behind and start shellacking the Germans. But nobody knows what's going on cause they are Me 109's too. The new K variant. Terry stands up and walks around the porch, stretching his legs. SKIP --And? TERRY (VO) And when the Germans were out of it they turned on our guys. All but Captain Davis were pretty green and took no time to get themselves shot out of the sky. Vic and Davis were all that were left. Pair of pirates come at them, Vic rolls off and they shoot the wings right off of Davis. He hits the silk and the dirty bastards came by him floating down shooting him to pieces. SKIP What about grampa? TERRY (VO) Six to one. Knew he was a goner. So he banks into the one nearest him and they both go down. (beat) Later, the ground spotters found a piece of the pirates tail. Had a skull and crossbones on it just like Long John Silver. (beat) Story goes that a German had survived it. But nobody believed what he said. Never found a trace of any of the planes or any of the pilots. Skip stands up and gets ready to leave. SKIP Thanks for the story. You a German by any chance, Terry? TERRY Serious now. That story don't mean much to you, but it tears Steve up. When your dad was killed at the track it just made things worse. Losing your twin is really bad business so they say. SKIP Yeah. Well it didn't do much for me or Buck either. TERRY Skip, I'm trying to tell you that all of this is beginning to mess Steve up. Buck dying was about the last straw. He loves you boys like you were his own. SKIP I know him and Buck were close, but its the cars and the racing. I'm just a surfer. He doesn't care much for surfers. TERRY You're wrong, son. Steve thinks more of you than you know. He just never wanted to push you into it. But he needs you now.
Kool. I would like to see a real good hot rod movie come out. I'm intrigued from what I've read so far. Maybe you could get Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez or Frank Miller interested in this. That would put a twist in it, yeah? We can always dream right?
If this gets serious, production funds, script worked out, etc., let me know; I worked on IN THE BEDROOM, when first I got out of art school, as storyboard artist. Film was nominated for 5 Oscars, 3 AFI's and a bunch of other stuff. I know hotrods better than anything... If you need some visuals count me in. I'm sure I could help you get the look you want. Being a painter/illustrator, I'm VERY picky about period correctness. It doesn't take much to make or break a scene - I believe that true for all forms of visual media. If you work it up to the point where it may become a reality, let me know. Jonny
