I need a set of oversize pistons for a 337 Flathead. Does anyone know of a supplier? Is there another sized motor that the pistons will swap out on? Also is anyone making speed parts like a dual intake for these motors?
You might try Eggy Machine in Calif. I have a 337 in our '49 Cosmo rag top and I've also been looking for "speed equipment" for the big Flathead. I know that a deuce intake manifold was available but I have not been able to locate one.
Read my response to your other thread re pistons. Ken Austin is your best bet for a manifold. Odds of finding old Edmunds heads and manifold are slim to none.
Egge gets about $362 per set-any size up to +.080. quote=rla442;2575337]I need a set of oversize pistons for a 337 Flathead. Does anyone know of a supplier? Is there another sized motor that the pistons will swap out on? Also is anyone making speed parts like a dual intake for these motors?[/quote]
Hey, In my opinion the 337 already has speed parts on it. That's what the luxury lines did. The intake you have is well designed. For me I'd adapt a performance 2 barrel like a Holly 500 cfm to start out with. Next put that baby on a diet, both in stuff you can unbolt and the rotating assembly. If you're going to rebuild try to get some weight out of the crank and flywheel. The current Ford Modular V8 has a bore of 3.55" and a popular overbore for them is 3.70". Your 337 has a 3.50" bore so the stock Modular pistons may fit the bill nicely. You may find a piston maker that will put the pin locattion where you need it. They have the new modern rings as well. Don't forget to port and polish and see what you can do for some decent intake and exhaust valves. That's just my 2 cents.
Try these suppliers: www.kanter.com www.flatheads-forever.com www.egge.com Ken Austin does make some killer manifolds but you need a good chunk of doug. Good luck with the build...
I have seen one 2x2 at Turlock a few years back. Been trying to convince "SHARP" to build atleast a 2x2 and heads while he is at it, for a while now. EGGE is the place for pistons. Side Note: Im looking for the shifter arms off a 1949 Lincoln 3spd Overdrive. Probably the same 49-51.
Ken actually called me and talked to me for about 30 min after I emailed him. He is currently designing heads for it. Look up this book, http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780760327777&itm=3 Has a build and everything.
Here is an intake I saw at HCPU a few years ago. I'm thinking the injector bosses may be for the center ports of a Buick nailhead?
Thanks for all the info. Also that is one sweet looking 337. I was working a little on the motor yesterday and cleaning it up and discovered it already has valve seats in both the intake and exhaust. I did find the Ebbe pistons once I reallized its not spelled with a "y" when I googled it. I'll keep and eye out for more parts and just keep adding them when I find them.
@3thirty6point7 Dale Fairfax, son of HAMB, has left the bonds of Earth & traveled on. A great wealth of knowledge lost to us all. I miss reading his posts. If you can take recent pictures of your Edmunds 337 parts, you can post them in the PARTS classifieds, from a home computer ... not a cell phone. Be aware, that you being a newbie, may affect your ad response. Proof of life ... in reference to the parts represented ... is highly encouraged. Maybe a picture with a means of verifying today's date. A current newspaper or date stamp of some sort. New posters selling have sometimes been scammers. Not accusing you ... just telling you the truth. In any event, welcome to the HAMB.
