This is what i have... A brake wire from steering column. I have the brake light wire coming from the back brakes. I have the power brake light wire from the fuse box. I have two wires coming from the brake light switch. When i connect the wires... power wire to one switch wire and lights and column wire to the other switch wire, the lights stay on. Shouldnt the lights only be on when pressure goes to the switch? What gives? Any help would be appreciated.
You need: -One wire from the fuse box to one side of the switch. -One wire from the other side of the switch to the steering column. -The turn signal and brake light wires are the same wire on a dual filament bulb. -You will only need another brake light wire if you are running a third brake light, or separate brake lights and signal lights.
Thanks for the reply. I think i figured it out. The switch is bad. Power runs through without any brake pressure.
You might have the brake light switch in between the residual pressure valve and the wheel cylinders. A drum brake residual pressure valve holds about 10 psi on the brakes at all times. It might be that your brake light switch turns on at less than 10 psi. If that's the case, try putting the brake light switch between the master cylinder and the residual pressure valve instead of between the residual pressure valve and the drums.
