    All,

Is it possible to freshen up a 59A flathead without an entire rebuild. I have one that has never been rebuilt but is very tired. No obvious cracks that I can see, oil clean ( black but no water intrusion) Turns over with starter. Compression was very low, 85 psi at best with 2 Cyc reading zero. Any suggestions, I would like to do it in my garage, maybe hone and new rings, new valve guides. I know a rebuild is probably the best way, but funds are tight and I would like to get it on the road until a better motor comes along.

    Im open to any suggestions.

I'm sure that if you have that much time and wear on a motor you are in need of a complete rebuilt including bearings to make it worth anything. if it were me, if you just want it to be a runner for now, I would pull the heads and intake check the valves for seal (probably why you have 0 psi) and clean it up a bit and run it.

Have you tried to get it running yet? I have the feeling if you start to tear it down, you're going to find a bunch of problems and end up doing a full rebuild.
