not a big nascar fan but i always watch the 500.great coverage on tv this week with lots of cool historic stuff.damn the late 50s thru the 60s were *****in lookin cars.the cars actually looked good up to the mid 80s.i cant tell a toyota from a ford or dodge now if it wasnt for the decals.....anyways,anybody else gonna watch the race?
Nope. Used to go to all the races at Riverside and Ontario, then it all went downhill. Anytime something becomes "mainstream" and "hip" it's doomed.
I am not a big NASCAR fan at all either but I seem to enjoy watching Daytona every year. I guess it is like watching the super bowl or the world series, you just watch it first. Other than Daytona, the only other NASCAR races I watch are the Short Track Night Races, if we are not at a cruise in or out in the car.
I'll be watchin', rootin' for Jr. (#88) now. I know the sport has changed dramatically over the decades, but I still enjoy it. Been a stock car fan since my youth in East Tennessee. Been dozens of times to Dover, Richmond, Martinsville and to the Daytona 500 in '79 and again in '82. Was there when the Allisons beat up on poor ole Cale in '79 but couldn't see any of the fight 'till I got back to the motel and watched it on T.V. Don't go anymore, N.A.S.C.A.R has alienated many of the old school fans and the ticket prices are obscene now.
Watching party at my place, new plasma, surround, pizza, beer, ******* waitress's, oh wait, scratch that, spousal unit IS NOT out of town this weekend. BUT HELL YEA -
I lost interest when the cars all started to look alike but have been watching more of it this year. I'd have to say I was a lot bigger fan back when the cars looked more like what you could actually drive on the street. But I will be watching when the work schedule permits.
I have worked 17 Daytona 500's won three 91-94-95 Car #4. Being a single car team now we have no sponser and are not there this year after 25yrs racing it is very hard with the multicar teams. Yes I will watch the 500 because it is been a huge part of our lives.
So you worked on the Kodak Chevrolet team? Bet thats awesome actually working on a race team. I have a friend that works on the ambulance at the Daytona 500 and he always has a blast in Daytona.

Man I know it's got to be a downer not to have a Morgan-McClure car in the "500" after the great runs you folks had there. Is the shop still operating, do you still have a job? Sure hope so. I'll be watching an hoping Jr takes that #88 to victory lane to make it 3-0 at Hendrick..but better yet to see Theresa Earnhardt **** her pants and have one hell of a case of heart burn
Yes that is my 32 coupe. We are still open with 6 employees, we had 35. We have 6 COT cars ready for the 08 season but no money. We are restoring the 95 daytona 500 Winning car Sterling wrecked with Earnhardt going for the lead in the 96 Talladega 500. Our 94 Lumina 500 Winner is at Daytona for a parade lap with the past winning cars. Yes it is a cool job, don't know how long we will last. Stop any time if we are open I will show you around.
with all the coverage on tv some good and historic ALOT just sayin the same thing time and time again, its a shame they cant find some quality air time for the real speedweeks at the short tracks especially the huge field and compe***ive racing every night at the dirt track in barberville i go to everything at the speedway except the 500 as i do like watching it more on tv
Thanks Coop. I'll take you up on that shop tour next time I'm in the area. Would I be askin' too much to maybe get a ride in your '32 ? The image of that coupe has been seared in my mind since I caught that glimpse of it 6 mos. ago. It is one fine looking hot rod......Don. P.S. Sorry to the original poster for hijacking your post. I'll shut up now.
I will watch some of it but if Wayn Pablo Montoya wins in a toyota I take my southern **** and start watching tennis
