Thanks in advance! Then i´ll go to their office and get it.

Will You go to Do-Dad´s in Finland? I will and The Merc tags along. It wont be easy to get it on the Ferry though, the hydraulics aren´t there yet ...

Hi Klaus, i found the No and year of the issue, you typed it out when you translated the article in the "DaFonz for sale in Sweden" thread.

Thank you! Now i´ll get the paper!

  3. I had the VCR tape here in my garage for months...lent to me by his family. It had a pretty healthy layer of garage dust on it when it left, pretty fitting. I only watched the tape once, it was kinda like watching that horror movie The Ring! It was full of static and very shakey. It was cool though... I was going to copy it for you all, but it was so much work to edit it. Only parts of it were worth saving. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome....just alot to watch and edit. Camera would fall over sometimes, then he would pick it back up....pretty good stuff.
He was cool! And what a passion for this stuff he had, shown clearly by this video. Working by himself, no buddies, in the snow, torch and a hack saw....COOL!!!!

I'll see if I can dig anything up... I worked at a restoration shop years ago, the maniac I worked with had a bug chopped by Fonze. He may have a pic. I'll also ask Mary ann if something comes to mind.

  4. Ok, Hoping to have some pics for you guys soon... Stay tuned!

Now you solidified your place in history as the complete prick that has no idea what he's looking at. Is that car a pice of shit? Ya. But thats not the point. Its what Joe stood for. And obviously you are not able to grasp that concept.

  12. Ummm, since you just called someone a punk, now I wonder: Was he the Fonz before Winkler?

You are an idiot. I had something more fitting, but changed it cuz this is a nice thread and I would hate to see it closed because of some ignorant ass who thinks he is funny and has nothing positive to contribute.

  15. WOW! That Merc is really hard to love. The work is really cool, but it seems way over the top,in it's purple colors. Seemd better when it was black. Fonzie must be one cool guy. Looks like he rolled the way he wanted, and didn't care what anyone thought. That chop is just wild!!! Is the car still over seas?

I can understand doing your own thing. I can undertand not everyone has the talent of Hines, Barris, Roth etc. Joe may have been a great guy, that dosen't mean that the cars he built weren't rat rods. I have seen people on here get nailed for osr type cars. Let the bitching begin:Dbut if anyone else had posted cars like that you would be telling them to go F#@K themselves.

  18. I didn't now he was gone. Sorry to hear that.

  19. all these merc threads got me all jazzed up for one .. i will have to run it by the wicked witch of the south and see what happens..

you have to understand joe was a back yard guy and the real rat rod looking black merc was built when he was very sick but he still had to have a merc he was a icon in the custom world not because of the cars he built but his lifesyle and the love of customs he help a lot of people on the hamb from the east coast get into cars he lived life as only he could and he will be missed for a long time to come so when cars are mention or the 50,s someone will always bring upjoe the fonze carloni

Build something better. Build something that while it may not be a Barris Merc, is known coast to coast and across the pond. Look at the people on this thread that have replied and see where there from and how they know exactly who Joe was. I dare you.

Who the hell are you? You're nothing, he was something.

    Agreed!

  26. Any pic's of other cars he worked on? He seemed to do some really nice work. Slowandlow63. Don't judge a guy by one car. His name has been brought up many times before,so he must have left an impression on many guys here.

Teddyp: what I said wasn't to be out of disrespect, just going by what I saw it seemed like a double standard.

slowandlow63: Who the Hell am I ? Don't tell me I am nothing. You don't know me, just like I've never heard of Joe before this thread.

Well here we go again....I knew him too....great guy....a real down to earth custom car guy who once offered to chop my 51 Merc fordoor for under 500 bucks but unfortunately never got around to doing it...I see Mary Ann on a regular basis riding shotgun with Joe Urspruch in his 50 Merc ''Misty Blue'' and at times tooling around in her own yellow Chevy pickup and like you who were there I have stories to tell about the guy from Port Monmouth that outsiders never got to know.

I didn't know Joe, had only heard of him and his cars. I think "icon" really is the word to describe him. This guy's the real deal.
I have really enjoyed seeing the Mercs in this thread, it's the kind of thing I come to the HAMB site for.

As a personal friend of Joe and his family,a lot of people knew who he was and of his cars.We were at both of his daughters' weddings, drove my 51 Chevy for Debbie's wedding. Both Joe and Mary Ann were like a second set of parents to my brother and I.When we did not have anybody come to our house on Sunday,we were heading south to Keansburg,to spend a day with the Fonz.Joe once told my Dad,if you ever want to get rid of your 2 sons for the weekend,I will take them.It was a real tough day going to his wake. There will never be another one like Joe.He was the BEST!!!!!!!!!.
