Last year I found the Phaeton in a farmers field. I am in the land business so I can find property descriptions and who owns the land no problem. So i find out who owns the land and call him and confess that I found the car on his land. He was't upset and didn't recall any old car parts on his place. He remembered seeing an old seeder. But he said to go get it at no cost. Anyway I took the road to where I thought it was by a creek. Hmmm wrong place. We then went 2 miles north and 1 mile west there was the creek again. So we find the car, load it up and went on our merry way. I got thinking afterward that something didn't seem right about the location. I checked google earth and the land ***les registry. ****. I had the wrong land owner on the phone . No wonder that he didn't recall seeing any old car bodies on his land. Oops. Guess I need to call the right guy tomorrow. I had the right guy with the the Tall T.
Hmmm... this is where you earn the "Genuine Stolen Parts" sticker ... or find the owner of the land, explain the situation (try to make it sound humorous - cuz it is) and hope that he/she is impressed that you're a stand-up guy and had the sand to seek them out to make it right. Hopefully they will just tell you to be on your way. Hopefully they won't see dollar signs and an opportunity to bend you over that rusty fender, or they might have been "planning on restoring it some day" and want you to place it gingerly back where it was rotting, and HOPEFULLY they wont call the cops. That's a lot of hopefullys, and a tough call to make. Good luck.
Nice picture of the coupe and the roadster. Post a picture of your new phaeton. Those are pretty rare, specially if its a 2 door touring car
If you are really worried about the Karma and/or the cops just go put it back real quiet like and move on!! Otherwise mums the word..........
In a lot of situations that can possibly lead to trouble, there is one thing you can ask yourself and the correct thing to do usually follows. Take a deep breath and ask yourself: "What would my mom tell me to do?" Good luck with the phone call.
Damn, you had to say that, didn't you? But you're right. I used to kid my late mother that she was so honest that she made Abe Lincoln look like a used car salesman. And she really was that honest, God bless her. I'd call them and ask them if they're interested in getting rid of it. If they are, drop off the money and say no more. If they're not, then you'll have to explain what happened and do the right thing.
Everything worked out. It cost $100 to get out of my problem. It's a 4 door phaeton with the rear of the body missing. I wanted the cowl posts for my Hallock winshield and it has an excellent frame.
Happy to hear it wasn't the end of the world George. Carma in the clear. Congratulations on your new "purchase".
Excellent outcome. I'm a ****er for happy endings. If you weren't the right kind of person, you'd have kept your mouth shut and never posted this in the first place. Kudos to you.
You did the right thing . . . and you can sleep at night! "Do Unto Others" is always the best policy.
Things usually work out for good guys. I said USUALLY! Nice to know your a stand up guy. Thanks, BOBBY FORD
