The OTHER 60's wheel - tru-spokes - my car is "done"

I built my car last year with big painted smoothies and spider caps with skinny black walls but it never really seemed right. . .It seemed like a good idea in concept, but it never really worked with the flaked roof and all of the original 60's gear I had scrounged up.

I saw Lee Pratt's 58 chevy and realized that the 60's show car, lowrider-before-they-were-called-lowriders style is what I was born to rock. ****'s chevy has it too, Donnies Olds and LuckyStiff's too.

A lot of the sixties show cars seem to be on chrome reverse wheels or supremes. But a whole lot of them are also on tru-spokes or buick wires. . .and nobody seems to run them anymore. Why? Are they too strongly ***ociated with t-buckets, br*** lanterns, and vans? Whatever, I'm into them, and they can be bought cheap used because most people think they are gay.

Too "lowrider" for the custom guys, too "custom" for the lowriders . . . just right for a white cholo.

**** supremes man . . the tru-spokes have spoken the truth! ha, ha, ha. If I take my hands of the wheel this car now heads straight for Whitier Blvd.

Anyway, this car is just about as done as it will get and I never really posted pics before because it was never quite there. I am feeling good about it now and at the rate I have been going it will never be completely don anyway. So here's some pictures.

<font color="red"> That rocks. I have always liked the chrome wires. Just the keeping them clean is a time consumer. Real nice truck. How about some more pics and details of the engine. Gotta love a six pack

right the **** on. tru-spokes rule! mmm, some pinner whites, throw on some repro buick spinners, and nobody will know they aint buick wires. add a serious rake, or pancake it...uh, nevermind, better not turn people on to them, then the damn price will go up! [IMG]

i got truspokes collecting dust for my riviera.

one look i've dug from the 70's that you never see anymore, is full fendered A's slammed low on truspoke wires. a million times cooler than fad T's.

holy **** i likes the look of that alot. i've actually been after a set of tru spokes or buick wires for a coupla years now. i always either miss out or the buick wheels just go to high. i had put the buick to the side for a year until this week really. yeah i'd mess a little here and there but not much. well this week i've taken a break from the plymouth and am thinking buick stuff. think i got a '66 tbirb interior for it if the guys will ever reply back to my email. got a new motor for it from a friend the other day and he's even gonna do the rebuild for me. i may scallop/panel the roof in the next week or two. anyhow that thing looks incredible. now i want one again and there's one for sale locally.damit...ken....

Hell I usta cruise Figueroa in Highland park in my 55 Olds, because I had to to get to my house up the hill in Pasadena from there.

I likes them stylin rims there... They look a whole lot better on your Ranchero than the one I have on the front porch with the hose wrapped around it.... [IMG]

So what you going to do with the wheels you took off?
( I was sorta diggin' them when I saw them at Eldorado Park)

    donnie,
those are keystones with the black painted. those were the wheels to have all over the south. there are still tons of cars runnin around here with original keystones from way back when still on 'em. you can usually also pick up a nice set $50-$100 without much problem. i've sold a bunch of 'em from stuff i've picked up. had a white '66 ford with a set with the painted part matched in white and they looked real good on that car for some reason. if anyone ever wants a set of those i can probably find around here if i get off my lazy *** once in a while...ken....

I used to think I was twisted cause I dug wires..I'm not alone!!! That Ranchy is bad as hell. I'm putting 14" 100 spokes on my wife's Galaxie for the same reason..Astros are cool, but they are on everything!

Ive been looking for a good set of original tru spokes or tru cl***ics for my ride. I looked in a lowrider magazine the other day (I have every issue from 88 to 95 ,its gone to **** all ads now)They dont have any advertisers selling buffed out white walls or bolt on wires, its all 20s and black walls. Sorry about the rant.Your ride looks mighty nice whith those wires. Aren't those crager "star wires" though?Thats what we used to call those any ways.Nice ride Chaco
