When I was a kid (1970's) I remembered my dad had an old sweatshirt that was hand drawn with period car art. I couldn't remember exactly what was on it, but just that I thought it was really cool when I saw it. I ask my mom about it last weekend and she went and got it out. At the time my dad had a 58 chevy with a 348. He remembers the artist drew the shirts on the spot and it was either at a drag race or a car show. Dad drag raced a 35 chevy coupe in B/gas with a stroked 348 in KC at that time, so it was probably at a race. Surprisingly, my parents are die hard Ford owners now. Anyone remember who was drawing these at car events in the early 60's? Here's pics of the front and back.
2/Much, That's not a Roth or Mouse! piece.....probably not even one of the early Roach styles...It appears to be an inspired work by maybe someone who took it up during the heyday of monster shirts, but didn't do airbrush. If you ask me,though, any artwork created during that time deserves it's own recognition...so many young artists were stoked enough to go out and try this type of art at local car shows, even if they only did it for the experience....if you look at car show fotos from approx.59-64, you can spot all kinds of monster shirt artists booths set up on the floor of the same hall as Mouse, Rendina, and others.... Cool,no matter how you slice it....and worth preserving. Ace
