Hey guys, I'm pondering the thought of swapping in a 472 into my '66 Cadillac and I'm seeking any information on what is involved. Someone did tell me I would have to switch transmissions, is that true? Would I be able to use my existing radiator and A/C? i'm new to Cadillacs so any help is greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.

Your '66 will have a Turbo 400, standard GM stuff, should bolt right on a 472/500. Caddy must have gone to the BOP pattern by '66, every GM but Chev did.

'64-66 Buick & '64 Cadillac use the 'round top' bell, '65-67 Caddy (only) uses the 'flattop' bell, and '68 & later Caddys use the 'twin-ear' bell- which is the BOP bell (outside of the Buick mention above). You'll need a BOP THM400 for your swap.

My son is putting a 472 in his '64 that had a 429. It is my understanding you need the rear sump pan to work in the '64. Also, isn't there a long tail shaft and short tail shaft TH400 that can make a difference on drive shaft length? I don't know if the ch***is of the '64 is the same as the '66. Some Caddy guy can clear this up for us. Try this website:
