...anyone who doesn't think they can buy a decent ride for under ten grand should just keep thinking that way... more bargains for me! I'm disappointed when I have to spend more than $500!

I know where there is a '39 Ford Deluxe Coupe for sale that could possibly be had for 7grand. The skin is in great shape. It's been sittin' for awhile in a dirt floor shed. It's got a small block, auto trans, and a 12 bolt. Not my choice of drivetrain but what the hey. Probably a product of the 70's...Crushed velvet buckets.

I see some really nice stuff for under 10 grand all the time. Some good examples on here!

Well thats what it was meant to be (I can hear the Aussies gasp!) I believe I sold it for about $750.00 Yes the decimal point is in the right place, that is the car and it had a re built 390hp motor in it that had done about 300km.
    Never sell to family.
    Doc.

I think the secret is to not have your heart set on a specific car. Look for cars that don't require huge outlays of cash, but may need the motor gone through, or the paint freshened up.

it all depends on what you're looking for I mean if you lookin for a 41 Willys there's no way to buy one for 10,000 it all depends on what you are looking for.....

  13. Also... beware of guys who are trying to get 10k for their $5000 50's cars and trucks...

  14. No Shiite- I would have at least a nice driver and a project for that kind of cabbage

And, THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT ... PUH ... PUH ... SPECIFICS!

What era are you talking about? This place generally ranges from 30's to 60's- huge price differences. What's the wife's car? What are your projects? Do you want a hot rod, a custom (full zoot with airbags and all that crap?), or a mild stocker? Is it ever going on a long ass road trip, or less than an hour away 99% of the time?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

  16. while i appreciate the tutorials on buying a car, i've been buying, selling, building and trading cars for the better part of 20 years....the last 'no touch driver' i bought was a '64 chevelle malibu 6 cylinder which i paid $2100 for in 1991. i just never buy 'done/finished/driver' cars anymore, nor do i look at them when entertaining a purchase so i'm outta touch. i know what 10 grand worth of my time and energy looks like in my shop, but not what 10 grand worth of someone else's looks like on the open market. hence my curiosity...

In 2000 I bought a MINT, completely restored to original '46 Ford coupe for $6500. Honestly, the car couldn't have been any nicer. Things have changed indeed, but deals can still be found. That '50 Chev isn't what I'd call a steal, but it's an OK buy for a good driver.

The only "no touch" driver I would consider would be from an old lady selling a car she bought brand new years ago. Once a "hot rodder" or teenager gets there mitts on a car, I personally would want to go thru it, top to bottom. My Dad and I quarrel about this all the time. He wants me to buy a running car, sort out the details later. When I was car shopping, the LAST question I asked, after going thru it, was "does it start?"

After reading all of this I wonder why I can even get a offer close to $10,000 for my 46 Dodge. I know its not prefect but it seats four has a ton of trunk space. A real driver with proof that its been all over. Hell its even fast. So what the hell am I doing wrong?
