Detroit Autorama Meet & Greet, Hot Rod Mingle, GM Heritage Center Tour, & other info

We've always had Meet & Greets scheduled for each day of the Autorama and for Thursday move in as well because there has always been so many folks going on so many of the different days. This year will be no exception.

How does 2pm each day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Finkosel sound?

Chaz asked if he could host the HAMB Meet & Greets and since I heard that the Finkosel will be in it's own stand alone display area downstairs I thought there'd be enough room to mingle around and not block up the isle like last year.

I really don't know how many HAMB folks will be at Cobo for the Friday Meet & Greet. I think most are going to the GM Heritage Center for a look around BUT a M&G is scheduled for those that will be hanging out and might want to meet up with others from the HAMB.

Once again the NightMares have offered up their club display for us HAMB folks to hang out in, meet, bench race, put you feet up or whatever. This will be downstairs of course. Thanks so much to all the club members, HAMB guys, and non-HAMB guys as well, for letting us invade their space in droves. We really appreciate the hospitality. Just be careful not to wake the old guys napping.

BobK asks that anyone offering a ride to the Heritage Center, or anyone needing a ride, to meet downstairs at 11:45am on Friday. I'll say at the Finkosel cuz it's easy to spot. BUT keep in mind you won't be able to get inside the show till noon on Friday if you don't have a three day pass/car in the show so make plans accordingly.

Also, I guess this is as good a place as any to let everyone know that once again I will have a Saturday nite adult Hot Rod Mingle at my place in Livonia which is approx 15 miles from Cobo Hall.

Anytime after 7pm is fine. I'll have horse-doors and other kinds of snacks, jello shots and beverages but you guys will need to bring your own beer and/or liquor.

Tiki Lounge will be open and I will have a professional bartender mixing the drinks and yes, there will be HAMB crack.

I'll have invites with directions at Cobo as well but it's very, very easy to get to from Downtown to my place. The entrance to the freeway runs right along the side of Cobo Hall right by the ramp that you take to get inside or to the roof or to Cobo Joes.

There is a "People Mover" station in Cobo which goes around the city in a 2 1/2 mile loop. It's 50cents and worth it to ride just to see the view of the river, bridge, etc. One of the People Mover stops is Greektown which has some GREAT resturants. The top of the GM RenCen has a great resturant as well PLUS there is always a nice collection of GM cars in the lobby from the Heritage Center so stop there to check them out for free.

There is a good burger place right across the side street from Cobo Hall called Cobo Joes. If you're in the lobby exit the doors on the left, thats Conrgess. Left on Congress and Cobo Joes is on the right hand side one block down. The Post Bar is right next door.

If you go out those same doors and go straight up Washington for two blocks and turn right on Lafeyette and down down two more blocks, there are two great coney island places on the left. I prefer Laeyette Coney Island but right next door is American Coney Island. Perfect for lunch.

Also, there is a lowbrow art auction during the Autorama. It's upstairs, kinda in the center but all the way in the back. LOTS of HAMB folks always striping there. Stop by, check it out and buy some artwork.

One more thing I'd like to mention that gets overlooked alot is the "Circle of Champions" brunch on Saturday at 10:30am. It's held in the Riverview Ballroom and is $30. per person. This is the perfect opportunity to meet some legendary heros of the hot rod sport. Call Wendy at Championship AutoShows @248-373-1700 or you can get tickets on Friday at the show. No she won't BUT you must have a DD if in fact you are underage and plan on drinking at my place. You, or anyone, gets outta hand and I'll be the first one on the phone to the cops. Everyone is there to have a good time with no drama or anyone/thing getting hurt.

 

The cops have been passing out MIPs like Micheal Jackson passes out candy to little boys, so I'd be REAL careful if you're underage & diving into the hooch. Most kids I know have gotten tickets in the last year or so.

Bill Stinson here. I don't think we've officially been introduced. I talked to you about your Olds one day a couple years ago while you were gassing it up at Costco, then I followed you home down Telegraph last year or the year before, from Boomer's Billetproof. You and your co-pilot were getting drenched to the bone but you looked like you were having fun.

I work with Yosemite Sam Radoff at the Pinstripers' gathering at Autorama. Maybe I'll see you there!

 

So will Denise's party negate the HAMB meet and greet on Sunday again? I know we left at 5am last year but still managed to get to the COBO basement by 2:00pm and NOBODY was there. Oh well, it was worth it to see Single Paul No Dudes absolutely emasculating Pompador Flamejob the entire night. I know 99% of you have no idea what I'm talking about but if you were there it was pretty damn funny. And ladies if you see a guy named Squiggy its better to just let him hump your leg and get it out of his system. Running away just turns him on. Should be a great weekend, I can't wait. See you all at the M&G's and Denise's party, thanks for putting it on and letting us invade your house.

 

I'll be there for 3 of the M&G's. I plan on going to the GM tour friday.

I really enjoy hanging out in the stripers area and chatting with everyone. I plan on draging DOC. there for a few of the auctions and help him spend his money. I'll make sure to stop and say "hi". I hope you can make it to the party. You've got to be the closest HAMBer to me.

 

Andria is sitting right here with me and said don't sweat the cookies. She will be baking her ass off a few days prior to provide sugar filled sustinance for everyone.

Of course! Depending on level of drunkeness and if Squiggy is attached to my leg, I'd say we need to try for a clear lap picture this time. Last one was a little blurry since we were spinning in a chair.

I've got the Olds Feista caps for Big Olds on the way from No Nome BUT if your referring to last year serving tray hubcap, one of my guests needed it for his car so it left with him last year. I haven't been to any jukyards latelky to look for others. Maybe this spring.
