Got my metal watch band across the alternator lead and gnd. welded the clasp together and turned red hot. Funny how a couple seconds seems an eternity when you're on fire. Should always take off rings, watches, etc when working in the shop.

Smells like steak, huh? I always thought it smelled more like bacon! But then my ex always said I was a pig!

Here you go. This is a few days old and is starting to get that nice yellow slime over the top. Always pay attention where you are pointing the torch :D:rolleyes:

You have never felt "burning slag pain" until you have had a big booger fall in your ear c**** while welding overhead. It hurt so bad that I could not hollar; I just shook from the pain. Also the sizzle on you ear drum is enough to make you puke. It has been 3 months since it happened and I still don't hear right in my left ear.

Needless to say, I always pull my hat over to cover my ear now.

here's one that's a little different. working construction i had to go to the roof where the torch was and cut some 3x3 square tube to length and bring it back down. I ended up with about 6 pieces 1.5 feet long. I cradled them in my arms and carried them back down stairs ...while they were somewhat hot it wasn't too bad.

well they were hot enough to broil the skin on my arms over the few minutes it took me to get back down stairs. by the next day my forearms were all bubbled up and red on the insides. I'll never do that again..

I always like to say you are not getting burned, you are becoming one with your metal.

kind of a tai chi / fung shuey way to look at it

  11. I only wore shots once... now I just grin and bear the heat in jeans and a lined flannel shirt... Wear heavy socks too, I was sitting cross-legged welding and slag ember went right through my sock... took 2 weeks before my ankle skin gave it back.

A fews years back, I was recovering from a separated shoulder (yes, it was a result of a liquid induced brain failure). Anyway, I was getting a little cabin fever, so I went out to the shop to do a little work on the car. Some slag from the cutting torch lit my sling on fire. The soft cotton material went up like gasoline....tough to pat out a fire with only one hand! Would have been funny as hell to watch.

But there's a simple solution to all this pain and suffering ya know...

Just make sure you always have a large hammer laying nearby.
So whenever you set yourself on fire again, just quickly grab the hammer and wack one of your fingers with it. When struck corretly, this will most likely take away the "focus of pain" of your other body-part(s) that's on fire.... Problem solved... ;)

    :D
