Me and my girl are spending our vacation in the Los Angeles area. We arrive in Las Vegas on March 10 and from there we're driving to Los Angeles. We will be in Los Angeles for almost two weeks. Are there any carshows or swapmeets during our stay? Or are there things that we have to see or do?

    Thanx, Richard

You have a Ford. You MUST stop at the old Gene Scott obsolete Ford place, I think East Garvey ave in Rosemead. It was once a major supplier of both restoration and hotrod stuff for prewar Fords and a world famous Ford junkyard...the junk is almost gone, but now it is part shop, selling an interesting collection of A-B-V8 stuff no one else has, and part museum of neat old racing stuff and parts they once made and "plan to reintroduce soon". You generally have to ask which is which...
No website, barely visible place, but a unique piece of hotrod history.

If you could get there a few days earlier, you could make the 50th March Meet at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, March 7, 8, & 9. It's the biggest nostalgia race of the year, and the place is overrun with all kinds of hot rods. Full fields of front engine top fuel dragsters and nostalgia funny cars, swap meet, car show, etc. Believe me, it's worth juggling your schedule around to get there.

The Peterson Auto Museum in the Miracle Mile district is always fun (if your on a budget show up close to closing and they sometimes let you walk through free) and I like Barney's ******y for drinks, greazy food and pool....its on route 66 open since 1920!

Yeah, I have to 2nd Peterson. When I was there I was lucky enough to see the Ed Roth exhibit they had going on. Cool stuff ! Also, when your in Vegas check out the car collection at the Imperial Palace, that was pretty fun too !
