With the one-piece stamped base, slight peak at the top, and the stainless beads, I'd say it was made after 1935. No idea by who or for what.

my guess is a luggage rack..for the back of a sedan..maybe not ford, maybe ford. or other make.
usually it would have a leather covered box on it to put items in.
most of the cars back in the early days just didnt have enough room to store stuff, so they used these.

oops didnt see where you had already figured it was a luggage rack..Doh. im going to guess mid 30's
most of the earlier cars used wood ones

  8. i would clean it up , looks like good wall art for the shop , no idea what its for the handles on it are curious ..

Those aren't handles, they are part of the hinge arms to hold it in the lowered position for use.

Looks like the steps off of our old '83 Prowler.....travel trailer, that is. :D
No clue man, but they're some pretty cool pieces.

  13. That's one of those pieces that about the only way to ID it is to find one still on the car. And hope it's on the right car. I paid $5 for one with a Chevrolet logo on it a while back, if it's any consolation. I gave it to a friend who likes that stuff.

You are one GENEROUS guy !!

Probably 99% of those were aftermarket, because they were more $$$ from a Dealer. Actual OEM ones are therefor pretty rare and go for good bucks to restorers.
