Has anybody heard of a car that Barris debuted in 1957 called the Black Panther? It may be a 51 Chevy Coupe? I'm looking for some verification of it's existance. Thanks for any help.
The Black Panther was a chopped '51 Chev. built by Joe Bailon-Not Barris.Sorry, but I have no pictures. Was in a few of the Little Car Mags.
http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars/joe_bailon/ checked riksters site and didnt find any chopped chevy coupes
The car was actually built by owner Chuck Rogers, who was chief bodyman for Joe Bailon. It was featured in the August 1956 issue of Rod & Custom. Here's the magazine article. Mick
Thanks alot everyone. I've been approached by someone claiming to own it. He is selling it. I couldn't find anything on it and had never heard of it myself. I'll pursue it a little and if there is any validity to his story, I will post details/pics. Thanks again.
JoJi Barris will research any car claiming to be a Barris Built Kustom for you. There is a fee ,which she can tell you about if you are serious . it's expensive but worth the money if you have real Barris Kustom and wish to verify it's provenance.
Re read my post...it's not the old guy who does the work but his Daughter. I needed to verify a car last month and found the info and service provided was better than I expected .
I always wished it was in some more magazines. Since the car was black, you can't see the details in the old R&C like you want too. The car always seemed mysterious to me . It wasn't the typical custom you always saw in books back then.I hope somebody knows of more pics of it. One of my favorites!
Bumping this one to the top. The Black Panther surfaced today in Washington, and is newly in the posession of one of the "World Famous Swindlers"... I took some photos this afternoon as it was being unloaded into it's new "top secret Panther Den" (tm)....
I believe the new owner will be starting a new thread tomorrow. In the meanwhile, does anyone here have any color photos of the car? The article posted above seems to say that the original owner/builder was showing it at numerous car shows...surely there have to be some more pics around someplace...
