Hi, all! I posted a thread recently - AHRF - Keep the Flames Burning! - and thank all those that have read it and offered feedback! The AHRF site is undergoing a bunch of changes (as mentioned in the above post, we are still trying to sort out some technical issues and this this baby runnin' again!...so I apologize that some is still in the works.) I DID want to mention two new items that ARE up, and provide links so you can check 'em out! 1. Jim Miller's News - as mentioned my other post, it's fab! http://www.ahrf.com/news.php 2. The Photo of the Day - something Jim has also helped us with. VERY cool photos...a new one posted for each day! http://www.ahrf.com/photo_of_the_day.php (We are hoping to get the "Ask the Experts" up shortly...hounding the heck out of our IT guys! *LOL* Happy Night... Keep the Flames Burnin'... *Pascal*
bullshit, its a NON-PROFIT organization.... it costs you jack shit to visit it. if there was Right Click & Save functionality it means any jack hole can stroll in and take images to do with as they please. copied from their site --- under Videos/Photos > Donate The American Hot Rod Foundation is dedicated to preserving the history of hot rodding in all of its forms. We have collected and scanned over 5000 photographs, many of which we share with you on this web site. We have also made digital video copies of film footage loaned to us. Protecting your photos is a way of protecting hot rod history! Photos are often lost, loaned to someone and not returned, or they just disappear. In addition, period photos can fade or crumble depending on storage conditions. But these photos - perhaps your photos - are among the best artifacts of the history of hot rodding. We need them! Please help us to make the history of hot rodding as complete and interesting to future generations as we possibly can. This is our offer: if you will loan us your period photos, we will make a high resolution digital copy for ourselves and for you. We will then return the original photos to you along with the digital copy. That way, your photos will never be lost. Please note that we do not own your photos - you do - we just have a right to use the images. Therefore, if you want to give them to friends or relatives at a later date, or give someone else a right to use them, you are entirely free to do that. The more people who can see your photos, the happier we are! If you have photos or film that we can copy, or if you would in fact like to donate film or photographs to the foundation, please contact us at The American Hot Rod Foundation 30 Washington Ave Greenwich CT 06830 or call us at: 203.625.4774 or email at: photos@ahrf.com
And you're a arsehole. These guys are saving photos we'd never have a chance to see and making them available so we can view them at no cost. If you want something you buy it. Since when did the world owe you a living. To the AHRF guys.....keep up the great work. Guess I've found another place to spend to much time! I got a copy of Hot Rod Roots published by the AHRF the other day and it is awesome. If you are really interested in the early days get yourself a copy. The photos are awesome. You can buy it from their site.
I can see your point,I tried clicking on a few pics and got the " this image is the property...etc etc ". At least it's free to browse the pics unlike that drag race site where they demand $50 a year to see pics. At least we can look can.t we Casey..
Wow...hotly debated! As some folks mentioned (and I thank you for sticking up for us because clearly you understand what we are doing!) you do NOT have to pay us to see the photos. We don't make a thing on 'em...we just want you to be able to see them! A lot more money and effor thas gone into this Foundation than some realize...so please don't be disillusioned. We do have the right to these...but they are not "ours." We would not HAVE images to collectively show without the community that provided them! The copyright is in place because sometimes people feel like THEY can make money off of copying and selling them...and that is something we are against. The aim of the whole deal is to make COPIES of what could one day be lost, detroyed...too worn to see...and to bring the images to a broader audience that may have not had the opportunity to see them. In any case, I thank you ALL for the feedback...and am especially grateful to those of you that are so positive. A LOT has been put into the Foundation...and we are doing the best we can to get it back up and runnin'... XXOX, *Pascal* ps: Henry is not with AHRF now, though he and my father are certainly in touch!
Is the "photo of the day" feature still going to accessible over the last 20 days? I'm sure it was mentioned in a previous thread.
Thanks, troops! Henry is cool, definitely! He was interested in some other projects, some for-profit deals... But all was amicable when he left! Enbloc: Over the past 20 days...? Wasn't sure what you meant... Jim (Miller) posts a bunch at once that go into a cycle...so each day something new will post. Each prior photo will then go into the Image Gallery so you can also check THOSE out (in case you missed one) along with it's description... I'm telling you what... I'm in the Fashion Industry and wish to all hell that THIS community took a cue from Hot Rodders. I said it before but I'll say it again...the Rodding Community flippin' ROCKS! *Pascal*
It seems like Casey needs to have another look at the AHRF site. When I started scanning pioneers' photos they were thrilled that (a) other people would be interested in them and (b) that they would be preserved forever and shared with the hot rod community. In my opinion Jim Miller and the AHRF are doing something with these photos that will (or should) make the collection a national treasure. By documenting every photo they are recreating the history of the dry lakes in a very thorough way. And we all get to see it for free! Anyhow, I'm still around, getting my new company-Steelworks- off the ground. Currently working with JimA on doing a few kids workshops at the NHRA museum with Chip Foose. I'll let you know when we get the web site up and running. Thanks to Royalshifter and Irishpol for the kind words Henry
You guys are great! I love reading everyone's comments (thanks for taking the time to write 'em!) My father tested out the new "box" for the Pioneers last night...had one of my 11 year-old sisters call him on the phone to try it out! *LOL* It WORKED! YEAAAAA! Once all that jazz is up and running I will send out our first (in-a-while!) Newsletter. I will post it here on the HAMB and provide the link for those that would like to sign up for the future ones! Thanks again to all! XXOX, *Pascal*
It takes a real man to step up and apologise. I respect your action Casey I was pretty harsh in my comments but I know the costs involved in a operation like The AHRF and if we want our history to be preserved we have to realise that they need some income. Anyway Casey I'll take back my arsehole comment
Hopefully the view soft ware will be made a lot more user freindly .At present ( might only be me of course) the slide show is way too fast with no means of slowing it and the pics are too small with no way of enlarging so we can perve or so that old buggers like me can see clearer. Also when you click on the slide to pause it doesn't seem to stop on the pic you want, sometimes no pic or the previous or next pic is displayed. That gets boring really quickly.
Its good of you to apologize Casey. I have got to say that the AHRF is a stand up deal in every way, and I don't even work for those guys. I have met Steve, Pascal, and know Henry too. They have done nothing but try to preserve (in one place I might add) things that would have surely been lost to time. It is places like the AHRF and here that preserve the things that we look up to. And not to mention that the majority of the start up wasn't funded by us in the hot rod public. Steve (and his wife) put up a sizeable wad of cash to get the ball rolling and THEN started asking for donations to help keep the foundation alive and get all of us involved. They went out and talked to some of our heros and got them to step up and help, AND those same heros applaud what Steve and the gang are trying to accomplish. It is a pleasure to say that Steve is a hot rodder like the rest of us who had the foresight to try to save our history. Best MRAK
I really want to thank all of you for your support...you have no idea how much it means to the AHRF team. I was practically beside myself at how many people READ this post! (I kept calling - much to her annoyance! - my mother to tell her! I was SO excited! Casey, thanks very much for your comment. I always believed my parents are the coolest two around... I have been dealing with some real buggers at work lately - make me CRAZY because they have a SERIOUS lack of work ethic... Stroll in late, do what they want to do as opposed to what they should do... It's frustrating as all hell! And then I think that maybe...if I didn't have the parents I have...I may have turned out the same way. My mother and father grew up with VERY little. They are so hard-working it's nuts! I thank them every day, if only in my prayers, because of the morals they taught me. They are NOT the kind of people that take advantage. EVER. I hope I end up half as decent as they are one day! Mercmad - Thanks a TON for the feedback! I am going to send your message along to our team, as well as to our primary technician right now! Happy night to all! *Pascal*
MERCMAD: My father and I are checking out the Photo Gallery Slide Show... You can't slow the photos...but you can hit the Pause button (above the photo) and then just hit Next Button when you are ready to party on to the following one! If you'd like to resume, you can hit the Play Button and you'll be off! As for size...I know they're kind of small. Sorry! They tend to get a bit fuzzy when enlarged..and if we provide more pixels (higher definition) we are aware that their are sharks out there who can then snag the photos, reproduce and try to sell 'em at swap meets...and the Pioneers get nuthin' for it!
I've had a number of the pictures on my site www.hotrodroundup.com stolen and used commercially! When I contacted the a**holes about it I was told tough shit mother f*cker and threatened with violence! Damm scary as they seemed to know my address.
No way! That's awful! I'm so sorry you had to experience that! People are flippin' crazy these days... Nothing seems sacred anymore! It's exactly what we being so cautious about. The Pioneers give us the rights to their photos...to copy and share them with the borader community...but we give them back! We are trying our best to keep them the treasure that they are...and away from dishonest hands (which no doubt wouldn't care about the Pioneers that owned them in the first place, the rats...) Yeah, and I love it...violence. They steal from YOU and then threaten... What in the hell is THAT about?! SICKOS! We're with you, Irishpol. Those guys are playin' dirty and one day it's gonna kick 'em in the a**! *Pascal*
