Howdy, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Ken. My main interest at this point is to build my first ride after mere ownership. I may have access to a 8BA Flathead, straight axle with unsplit bones, and a banjo rear. I know a junkmonger who has 10 years worth of extra projects. Good guy to know. He is practically giving me the stuff so I will start building. I'd like to put together a little rpu or modified, and have been looking for books on how to scratch build a frame. Anybody recommend one? Had a couple of previous nice rides: 59 ElCamino 283/2sp, Willys CJ-2a 327/12 forward/3reverse, 71 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible 350Auto, 72 ElCamino 350Auto, 97 1200 HD Sporty, and several trucks not worth mentioning. My wife says I am a pickup man. Which brings me to my main problem...other than money. Wife is not down with traditional rods. She likes 70's muscle car convertibles and Harleys <spoiled her from the start>. She's a cool chick and is down with a hotrod, but we cannot agree on what to get. And all truth told, if Momma ain't happy, nobody happy. Hope to hear some encouraging words and get some good advice...other than leave my old lady. Not an option!
Welcome, Have you used the "search" in tech o matic? You can find loads of good advice and how to's as well as links to other sites with tech info. Kick back have a beer or what ever and enjoy the cluster f*ck that is life on the HAMB
Welcome - what side of Ft Myers? When I lived in St James -Pine Island there is a guy who built an awesome modified out of mahogany wood strips 2x4 steel frame and a donor caprice wagon. If you make a trip out there he is to the right as you get into St.James at the split. I had a CJ 2A w/ a Dauntless V6 that I used to dick around in the North FM-Cape Coral flag ponds. Later from Jacksonville - DOGG
Welcome, now put me in touch with your Junkmonger. I'm up here in Largo. Hot Rod Walt is down your way.
Welcome fellow Floridian. Just remember, if YOU are not into the project, you'll never get it done. So it is a 2-way street. Is Momma going to be in the shop building it too? You have got to be happy also. Good Luck! Glenn
Welcome to the HAMB and good luck on your upcoming project, whatever it might be. Here is some advice that worked for me when I was married: Distract her with her own toy car of some sort. Buy her something she is into and she'll 'forgive' your insanity over rods that she may not understand. It worked for me until she ripped the front end off of it in a wreck and I ended up working more on her car than on mine. LOL Regards, Big Daddy Eric
What are you looking for? Maybe I can help. I tried to give Bad Liver a project, but his ol lady wasn't down with it. Dont feel sorry for him 8-P... Mike
Bad Liver I think I've seen this intro before. What I usually do when we don't know what we want to build I just drag something home. Maybe that won't work in your house but it always works here and has for a great long time. Of course the wife's a gear head and that helps. Hang out and learn, drop some knowlege when you will. You're welcome friend The PKnBner
I get up in the morning, appoligise, for anything that day that might upset here during the day and go to work,it gives me credits. Welcome
Welcome Mr. Bad Liver. Do you have a bad liver or do you live bad? After way too many years absence I got back into hot rods couple years ago. (Avatar was my last scratch build, photo taken in '67) We live in the sticks, WAY out in the country. We cut a deal, I don't complain about her bringing minature donkeys home, she doesn't complain about old rusty cars. She now has 11 donkeys, I have 11 "project or parts" cars. Now I like her donkeys, she has turned into a car freak. At Roundup she pointed to a roadster told me she liked the way the firewall was striped. Damn, she even knows my language now!! Wants my 54 GMC project for a daily driver!
Thanks for all the encouragement. Now I have to get off my nuts and build something. I was worried I was gonna get my balls busted for being the newbie. I did send a couple of PM to you folks kind enough to offer words of encouragement. Now I am off and running. Did I mention I am gonna paint my pickup flat black with red steelies and call it a rat rod so I could be cool? I am thinking of putting a hula girl on the dash, too.
