We had a 37 chev at our shop, that some one did that to . The only way to discribe it is, darker and more depth, with out the sparkle the gold would give .This was one of the first time's i saw something like it .First though, was they just shot candy over a gray car .It was easy to match we painted lt fr fender and running board .
I also had a 40 chev i bought a little while a go and it had candy purple over a blue base ,that car you couldn't tell if it was purple or blue.

  3. You can buy a paint chip book from House of Kolors for around $35-$40 and it has a lot of good paint chips of different combinations of candies over different bases. The paint chips are supposed to be actual paint. Compared to what it costs to buy the paint, it's cheap insurance. They always recommend shooting a test panel to be really sure before you paint the real deal. You have to see the chips (or a curved test panel) in the sun to really get a good feel for them because they change color a lot depending on how the light hits them. Candy looks kind of dull in diffused light like on a foggy day or under fluorescent lights, but it sparkles and glows like crazy in the sun or under pin-point light sources.

Being a bit old-time here, I've only shot candy over gold, silver or pearl white. It really does boost the intensity of the "tint" the candy offers. It is a bit tricky if the car has sharp edges or shape features, to get one consistant level of color depth.

How did it look in your opinion? Sounds like it didn't look so hot. The Brandywine looks real pretty over galaxy grey....bright in some areas of the car and almost black in others. Looks nice and rich.

I've done Candy over Gray, just gives a different effect.
More like shooting over Silver, compared to White.
There are probably 1000 different shades of Gray.

I would suggest you do a test panel.

Yes. It is darker. Still pure red tone, but darker. Not any easier to spray than over silver. I've done it over pure Orion silver, over Galaxy grey, and over mixes of the two. Just changes the shade (darkness). I've even done mixes of galaxy grey and black pearl to get it darker.
They ALL look good....just depends on what color YOU like!

Go to the paint store, look at chip charts, have them mix up samples, and shoot them on a test fender with different base coats. There's really no need for three different threads on this.
