    I'm getting ready to buy some Gauges for my 31 coupe. And I was wondering what every one thinks about Electrical Gauges vs. Mechanical Gauges? which one gives less Headache??

    I was looking at getting a set of Stewart Warner Cl***ic wings set, but I read in a previous Thread that 50% of the people had problems with them? and the other 50% are happy with them? Maybe 50% are running Mechanical, and the other 50% are running Electrical???

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Thanx 4 reading:):)

    One advantage of an electric oil pressure gauge is you don't have to run an oil line to the dash :)

    Over the years I've had to replace a lot of sending units.(admittedly mostly late model ****) Often for giving false or erroneous readings. So how did we know it was reading incorrectly and needed a new sending unit? We put in a temporary mechanical one to get an accurate reading...enough said.

    Mechanicals can break but the rarely give false readings. They either work or they tell you that they are broken and need to be replaced. Besides they are nostalgic for my tastes.

    there are ways around that, acces panels etc.

    I read that mech gauges are more accurate as well, don't know if that is correct or not?

    In one of my Mechanical Engineering cl***es we were taught that every electro-mechanical device is, ultamately, designed to fail...granted this was waaaay back in the 70's but I suspect that little has changed given the rate at which my wife goes through small appliances.:D

    I'm going to take on that challenge w/ Mechanical Gauges, and it will be more Traditional:):)

    I just bought a set of NEW Stewart Warner Mechanical Gauges today on Ebay from Wilson& Woods in San Clemente, California. He has 2 more sets of the gauges from 4 years ago. These are the good ones!! I returned the 6 gauge SW Cl***ic wings set electrical back to Speedway Motors, Cause they were Plastic Bodys and Bezels!!?? WTF!!!... another US company going cheap!! It's really sad to see a company like Stewart Warner going in that Direction:(

    I will be running Mechanical. Thanx everyone for your input:):)
