I have a customer that wants me to put power disk brakes on a '64 Ford Fairlane. I've used later disks on '50's big cars and '60's trucks. Is there a easy fix for the Fairlane. I figured sombody here had done the swap. He wants power steering also if you have any advise. Thanks in advance. Later, Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop www.kevkographics.com
I think you can just do the Galaxie swap. I will double check and get back to you. I believe the 64 galaxie will be a direct swap. I thought I recalled reading something to that affect for the later year fairlanes when searching a viable ps option for my wifes 57 fairlane.
There are two sites that will help you out: Woody's Fairlane site Fairlane Club of America Plenty of information about using Granada or Mustang parts for the swap. Boltwagon 64 Fairlane 500 Wagon
yup..scratch the galaxie...I knew it started with a g... Here is the info for the Granada swap. http://www.woodyg.com/fairlane/finfo/drumtodisc.html
I have a 63 Fairlane Wagon used Granada spindles rotors calipers complete Tie rod ends from 72 Galaxie You could probably just pull complete steering from a Granada though I did not as my car already had P/S so all I needed to do was addapt my steering linkage Was not hard Found Mustang Maveric Granada fairlane all same Mid size Good luck Thanks Ray
I don't know as far as the brakes go, but, I know the power steering in these cars is just a hyd. assist. It has a cylinder that helps leverage the center link. It has a LOT of oversteer, and poor road feel. I used to get a manual center link, and delete the power steering ram, and system, because it felt better, especially for racing, without it. The box, as I recall, is the same, I don't remember switching that, as it is stand alone, but, I know the center link will have an ass-load of play, if you don't use the hyd. ram. Maybe a whole other pwr. str. system, perhaps a rack??

try these guys http://www.abspowerbrake.com/catalog.html have most every thing for brakes and steering I have granada brakes on my 1960 ford but they are getting hard to find.
I just did a disc brake swap on my 64 galaxie, i used 77 tbird spindles, they bolt on nice, you dont need to grind any of the spindle for the tie rods ends. im not sure if they will work on a Fairlane though
