D.A.S. auto shippers SUCK

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Feb 24, 2008.

  1. They were going to ship a car from me to Virginia. First, they call me just a couple hours before they were to pick up, and I missed the call. They wanted to charge the us twice for me missing the call which was an ambush. It was a 59 Elcamino with spare door and the long 1/4 panel stainless strapped in the bed. The car gets to Virginia with no parts. D.A.S. took them out and were going to throw in the trash. I had to go twice before they'd give me the parts. They wanted proof I was the right guy to pick up the parts. I tell them my drivers license reflects the SAME address you picked the fucking car up at, and the other involved party's 3000 miles away in Virginia. Who in the Hell else will even be asking about these parts, plus you were tossing them anyway. A 69 Super Bee last week was the same thing. They called me on my cell to tell me they were coming in an hour. I said I can't be back at the house that quick. They wanted to double charge again for the pickup. How come you guys don't give a 24 hour notice? Jackass company, I do NOT recommend

Have you heard the phrase "Fool me once, shame on you: Fool me twice, shame on me"?

They dont suck at all IMO, and I have used them plenty of times. You had a bad experience with some idiot employees it sounds like, that sucks. But if we all stayed away from a company because someone somewhere had a bad experience with them, there simply wouldn't be any businesses left and we would be right back where we were before the Industrial Revolution.

If I were to ship a car I'd:
A-use only someone well certified by the HAMB
B- photo everything from every angle when it was on the truck and have the driver sign off on the photos and what was included in the shipping.
C-not to give at least 24 hours notice is just bad business. If that's employees operating independent of the owner-I don't think much of the owner's oversight of his busness.

There are regular threads on the Ebay Motors discussion board about how horrible DAS is. And eBay even recommends them. There are websites that rate auto transporters. DAS is one of the worst, consistently.

  10. Both times it was the buyer that hired them. The second car was merely stored at my house. I had nothing to do with it's arrangements. A bad coincidence. But, BOTH times they ambushed me, probably hoping to catch me not around so they could double charge the customer. Shitty policy calling an hour before picking up and expecting me to be available

  12. The BUYER hired them. I was the seller. I don't get involved in hiring shippers

I use Express Auto Transport.Never had any problems.Customer service is excellent. When car is in trans.I call to find out where it is.I have an answer within the hour.Drivers usually call you the night before to let you know when they will be there. They are not cheap by any means but very dependable.

I dealt with them once a year ago, also a deal where the buyer arranged them to come get the car, and everything went smooth as silk. Hard to say the whole company sucks when the problem probably was with the specific few DAS employees you dealt with...Like any company, they probably have some really good guys such as the ones I was fortunate to work with, and some total idiots, like the ones you dealt with. DAS probably has hundreds if not 1000's of employees.

I guess it's pretty much like someone saying "the HAMB sucks" because they had a bad experience with a few members.

With that said, rather than roll the dice with a giant shipping company like DAS, I'd rather deal with a smaller outfit where you know who you're gonna be dealing with... trouble is, price is always a factor, and DAS usually is the cheapest company for long haul transports.

I just had my 31 ford shipped from CA to NY. The car was too nice to take a chance with so i went with Horseless Carrage. They were pricey but the service and equipment is top notch.

Shipping sucks.. Although my guy was a personal reference, good price, good service, had my car brought from Wi in about a week or so. I'm glad i went wth him and not a big company. Sorry to hear about your bad customer service experience.

I had a customer hire them sometime back. It was not good. I had to leave it at a drop off place 80 miles away. It was a towing storage yard. They parked it under some power lines and pigeons roosted above it. They pooped on the new paint and the employees left the ignition key on. They wanted to charge my customer a big extra fee for a non running vehicle. I had to go get it and recharge the battery. The paint was damaged. My customer was mad at me and he is the one that hired them. I like BenD!

with the way you guys talk about the transport business there is no way id use them. everybody thinks my dad and i are nuts but if we buy a car across country we load up the trailer and go get it. we are always up to a road trip, plus we might find something else to buy on the way!!!!

That's a good plan and one that I also use. But most people don't have the time or a truck/trailer to haul their purchase with. That's why the companies stay in business even when delivering poor service. It's also why guys like BenD earn praise for their good service.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I've searched "transport" and have had trouble finding recommended Hamb vendors that ship cars. Is there an area on hamb that shows transporting, when they leave and where they are going, backhauling etc? Yesterdays Tractors (on the internet) had a hauling schedule. Sent a recommended transporter Hamber above a PM but no answer yet. Some have lost interest in transporting due to high fuel costs etc. Let's hear some about recommended Hamber transporters even if they are "little guys" with a single car trailer!

They destroyed all 4 hubcaps on my sister's car when I shipped it to Arizona. (the kind that are held on by the lugnuts). I will never use them ever again.

Can't imagine sending a classic car with them.

I booked with DAS to ship my '27 from Texas to N.J. I was assured that they were not acting a broker and that it would be shipped in one of their own enclosed trailers therefore I would be able to use there GPS tracking option. The day after the car was picked up in Texas I checked the on-line GPS and found that DAS had no record of my vehicle. I called them, waited though 50 minutes on hold and finally found out that another company was now shipping my car. I was told that there was no GPS and that DAS would only know where my car was if the driver voluntarily called into them with his location along the way! Eight days later the car arrived in good condition and I signed the receipt the driver provided me. At that time I wanted to scream. The receipt said that DAS hired him and paid him $500.00 less than they charged me to transport the car. Boy, did I learn some valuable lessons this time around.
