Yes it's a Y block head. Near bolt on '32 Plymouth. Went 135 in the roadster. Being an F7 Ford truck motor will not help. "F" means Ford and Merc car engines. "O" means Other I guess.
Just took this from the ECTA XF cl*** consists of any production FORD / MERCURY, p***enger car V-8 flathead engine, 1932 thru 1953, up to 325 cubic inches displacement. XO cl*** consists of overhead valve (OHV) and flathead inline, V-8 or V-12 engines, 1959 or earlier design, up to 325 cubic inch displacement. Examples include Chevrolet, GMC, Hudson, Packard, Buick, Lincoln and Cadillac engines. Foreign engines are NOT included. **F cl*** is an XF engine, as described, with overhead valve conversion cylinder heads, such as Ardun Ford. **O cl*** is an XO engine, as described, with a specialty cylinder head, such as the Wayne 12 port. X c l*** engines, which are over 325 cid, but under 375 cid, shall be cl***ified as either **F or **O. Overhead cam s pecialty cylinder heads are NOT allowed in the XF,XO,**F & **O cl***es Looks like XO if I sleeve/ destroke or **O or **F otherwise.
Never going to be an **F. Not a Ford / Mercury p***enger car engine. When I set the **/GCC record in '78 all the engines ran togeather. Now all the engines except Ford/Mercury engines still run togeather Fords have thier own ck***.
I'm under the impression that casting is so much more difficult because having to allow for shrinkage, etc. I suppose if you already have to proper moulds, that's one thing. However, as has already been said, the fact that this is for a Bonneville car using a vintage engine, I think it is admirable as all hell to do it any way you can.
PANIC, What do you mean finish them??????..................just glue them together.............turn the key and go..................... Of course you have to use Goodson's FW-88 Fluid Weld......................at $10.00 per oz. One other thing I forgot to mention..................which may or may not be important to some of you.........................if you ever damage the head all you need to do is send it back to Norm and he will repair/replace the top or the bottom.
i picked up a set of Norman Frick heads from a private party, they have dual plugs and ill be running them on my LSR car, nice part is they haven't been cut for pistons. i called him once before but didn't get any reply back, is he difficult to get a hold of?
Plan9, Yes, Norm is quite busy and you need to keep trying.............because he builds heads and other stuff for 4cyld Fords he is usually at swap meets and doing other things.............keep trying.
Panic, The relief was done by me..................not Norm.................and they did get blended. Sorry for not being more specific.
While the Frick heads look like the ticket, I heard Ken Austin was making heads for the 337 as well. I read about Kearny Pattern Works & Foundry on Inliners. They list heads for the Lincoln 12, might call and ask about heads for the 337. Says they've been around since 1919.
Not many 337's at Bonneville as the normal cl*** if for Ford/Mercury up to 325 cu in. XF is the engine disignation. Would you just run **F because it is the larger cu in?
