  1. 100% agreement , although the old woman wants a new ride every tens years whether she needs it or not..

  2. Now, is the laws regarding cl***ic and antique plates the same in Washington as it is here in Pennsylvania? Basically, most of my crusty oldsters have collector plates. I pay a one-time fee to get them permanently registered, and never worry about annual registration or inspection again. Under the law, you must have at least one non-collector vehicle also registered in your name, so you can't use the collector vehicle as your daily driver. The funny thing is, they say the collector vehicle is supposed to be used only for occasional use, but they have no actual mileage guidelines in the law. So, if I really wanted to, I could drop my daily driver Toyota, drive my rods every day, and still squeak under the regulations since I also have a motorcycle legally registered. They also say you're not supposed to drive it after dusk, but I have never gotten pulled over, and I figured if I did, I'd just tell the cop I was going to/coming from a club meeting/cruise nite.

  3. If I hear one more **** tell me about green and carbon footprints I am going to punch em in the neck! and many of you know about my house so I can say this ****;)

Well like you all say...it's only gonna get worse...It already is!!! Take a look at the laws... by 2009 or 2010 every US Citizen is required to obtain a "real I.D." drivers license. It has a chip in it that contains all your info and can be tracked by our government...the next step is that they will be wanted US citizens to get the micro-chip implanted...They have 2 families currently that have these implants (testing) the implants will have all your info and finance info on it so we will no longer have the need to carry cash or credit cards...They say its all part of Homeland Security...I say it a bunch of B...S...

I thought Calif. was the leader in repressive laws that screw the rest of the nation up. I guess some Californian politicians moved to Wa.. Never relect a politician, they always lose sight of reality in their second term.

washington state is just about the same except they don't have the clause of having to have non-collector vehicle registered also. this kind of ******** stuff comes up because we have a SKIRT running the state,,expect more if they elect one to run the country!:eek:

  8. It's a hell of a lot easier to tax the **** out of old cars than it is to mandate factories into pumping out less emissions from their smoke stacks. Worse part is, there was a bill proposed to give factories "pollution" credits after so many cars were destroyed/taken off the road/whatever. Not sure if that ever went through...but god dammit.

I think I'm going to steal a bunch of tea from the office during lunch break and dump it into a nearby harbor...who's with me?

Ever heard of the 80/20 rule...???

Allow me: In 1906, Italian economist and sociologist, Vilfredo Pareto created a mathematical formula to describe the uneven income distribution, observing that eighty percent of the wealth was held by a mere twenty percent of the families.

Further empirical studies for other countries, produced the stunning result that they all followed the same pattern. Later ****ysis of distributions in industry and nature has demonstrated that 80/20 Pareto distributions were very common in various fields and not exclusive to income distribution.

Because Pareto's initial discovery involved a distribution of 80% of wealth to 20% of families and it's inverse, the Pareto Principle is often called "The 80/20 rule". The 80/20 Rule means that in nearly all cases, a few (20 percent) are vital and many (80 percent) are trivial.

In other words, 20% of the people in this country will eventually own 80% of everything, 80% of the people will be poverty level or below while those 20% enjoy wealth...20% of the people (politicians?) will have control over the other 80%...it applies to everything...and the politicians are heading that way.

The 283 (4.6 liters), would only cost you an extra $275 per year to run, under the guidelines of the proposed law.

They did it a different way when I was in Germany in the 60s. They required insurance and sure enough the insurance was based on value PLUS engine size. You could go ahead and drive one of those "American imports" but you paid!

It is scary there are people who are supposed to represent us who come up with laws like this. It is time for practical politicians with common sense. Where the heck have all the Abraham Lincolns gone?

The idiots who sponsored this are probably not smart enough to figure out potential loopholes. A T-800 turboshaft engine has a piston displacement of zero....

This is why you need to vote in RON PAUL for 2008. ANything uncons***utional is going to get pulled; income tax, patriot act, micro chips etc. A vote for RON PAUL is a vote for our rights back!!!!

  19. So what is the purpose of this law exactly, just to raise money?

I mean, it sounds like some ill concieved tree hugger ******** to me, the idea being that the bigger the motor the more fuel it uses. Which is all good except the engine size doesn't always have much bearing on the fuel economy of the vehicle - and those with larger engines that do get poorer economy already pay additional taxes every time they buy gasoline.

And that is probably the key to getting this thing shot down. Compare some average fuel economy and avwerage vehicle use figures to the projected revenue this would generate. Then recalculate the figures based on if 50% of the sample were to replace their larger engine vehicles with those in the 2.9L and under categories - and note the loss in gasoline/fuel taxes based on the greater fuel economy those vehicles will have. Something tells me that it wouldn't take a lot of people to get smaller cars before the state and federal boys would be losing money.

I would not laugh too hard about this. I think within 10 years something like this will happen. Almost everyday you see stuff on TV new about obesity. Fat folks beware!

Yeah, no ****! Me too, according to their figures. Last time I checked, I wasn't sitting in a country club sipping Seven & 7s!

The big problem with these laws is the liberals who sponsor them are stuck in the position of serving two masters: the greenies, and the self-made poor. The greenies want bigger engines taxed, and gross polluters taxed, but the poor people rolling around in a '78 Caprice, '84 Cutl*** or old Ford pick-up truck are going to be taxed at a higher rate based on being forced into buying an old car that they can't help but purchase because it's all they can afford? Not likely.

As for the microchip being implanted, I don't think things will get that silly, but if a bunch of men from the government show up at my door and demand that I take their mark, unless Jesus Christ himself stands on my porch and tells me it's okay, there will be one large crater where my house once stood, and a bunch of vaporized men from the government sent to their reward.

The current days Abe Lincolns are standing in the shadows where they will probably stay until we all get mad enough to stand up for ourselves. How many "Abes" in their right mind would go through all the BS to get elected in this country unless it was on the verge of colapse? We are a comunity of over 50K now, who amoung you would be willing to stand up and lead the fight? Hiding behind a key board complaining is easy. With the policy of not allowing political topics (and there are good reasons for this) it would be hard to get any realistic movement together. Alas, a hot rod board would not be the place to start such things.

If you really want things to change, you have to start at your local level. Begin the movement at home and as the movement begins to move forward, it will grow and we can take back our country. Are you mad enough to stand up and be counted? If your local legistrature has a couple of dumb ***es in it, it will be up to you to replace them with good people. Better take a real close look at those you want to put into power though, some people tend to change when the get a bit of power. Gene

That's ********. In this country, all you need for success is to finish high school, don't get knocked up (or knock someone up) before you're married, don't break the law, and work hard. Want more success? Go to college. And before you piss and moan about how it's set up for the affluent white man, I worked three jobs all through college, spent thousands of dollars on hunting, back packing and camera equipment, bought a NEW '93 Dakota truck, and graduated without a cent in loans. And I wasn't eligible for grants.
If you're poor in this country, it's because you've made poor personal choices, because you're lazy, and because you don't want to invest the real hard, focused hours for a few years to better yourself. Born into poverty over here? There are more than enough groups, grants, organizations and government support to help you get out. The problem is that it requires some effort and sacrifice on your part, and most people aren't willing to do their part.
America is the Land of Golden Opportunity, unlike any country in the world. Too many people think it should be the Land of the Free Ride. And it sounds like you're sitting in the back seat, *****ing because someone isn't chaufering you down to the Piggly Wiggly.

Fat tax, Nah, they've been listening to the Beattles' 'Tax Man', I figure the next one is an Air tax.

I'm not one for the 'Real ID' but if you are worried about being tracked p***ively with it (ie, through cell sites or whatever) line your wallet with aluminum foil.

No, I'm not kidding. Remember about 6 months ago or so when the Real ID **** was first getting started, they wanted everyone to have it by now. Part of the reason (or so it was written in the local daily rag) it hasn't been ins***uted yet, is the technology is the same as is used in the credit cards with the chip in them. There has been a problem with people with the right tech being able to read them from a distance (a short one, but still). The fix recommended by the author of the article was to split your wallet at the seam and insert a layer of aluminum foil between the liner and the shell (sew it back up so the foil doesn't get lost). It acts as a crude 'Faraday Cage' forcing signals from outside to p*** around the cards and not reach the chips.

I know, it's sort of a waste of effort, if you have to present the ID that doesn't help, but if your current ID is valid, any law enforcement agency can pull up your personal data with it, they just have to type it in now is all.:(
