A T-5 uses basically the same cable as a mid-60's C4. You may have to play with speedo gear ratios a bit to get the right combination, but it's a matter of getting a speedo cable/gear for 65ish Mustang, and plugging it right in.

Im not aware of anyone that makes an adapter to convert the magnetic impulse signal for the later T5's to a true mechanical drive for the traditional style speedo cables. The later T5's do not have the plastic gear set on the output shaft to drive the cable style speedo cables found on most vehicles before the electronics age, they use a magnetic pickup sensor to detect the rotation of the output shaft and converts that into an electronic signal that makes the needle on the speedometer move. You might check on some Mustang forums to see how this issue is handled short of having to swap for an earlier style T5 this is mechanically driven....

A 90 T-5 should have a drive gear. Unbolt the speedo pulse sender and plug in the mechanical cable.

Indeed it does. I swapped a 91 5.0 / T-5 into my 66 Mustang, and the speedo cable was probably the easiest part. Well, that and the drive shaft yoke. (Same as the C4, can ya believe that shit?)

All Mustangs T5's have mechanical drives at the transmisison and mechanical drives at the speedo. Mustangs got semi-electronic (mechanical input to the gauge but electic gauge operation I believe) speedo's in 1994, but used mechanical drives in the transmission's tailshaft through 1998. The T5 went away with the intro of the 4.6L SOHC in 1996 and was replaced by the T45.

You might be able to simply plug the '59 speedo cable intot the T5 and then only have to select the proper speedo drive gear to correct the out put.
