I have the complete '48-'52 F-1 brake setup (hubs, backingplates, and drums) for my A sedan. How do I make it work?

Did one, Maybe I should have stated that. All I found was 53 and up F100 to car spindle.

  4. 48 to 52 F-1 brakes adapt just like 53-56 f-100

find the thread by Deuce Roadster in the Tech section , read it and you will know everything you need to know

fyi: with your square spindles there is no grinding needed , just an inner bearing and seal switch. also , Speedway Motors has a bearing/seal kit to make it simple. your new brakes will have a 5 on 5-1/2" bolt circle , but redrilling to 4-1/2 late ford or 4-3/4 chevy is not a big deal

Are the F-1 brakes self-engerizing, Bendix style brakes? And do they work as good as the F-100 brakes? They seem to be a whole lot easier to find than F-100 brakes in my neck of the woods.

Yes, F1 Brakes are Bendix self energizing. Speedway has the best price on the kit to adapt them to your spindles. I tried buying my parts separately and ended up spending more money.

    Brother Mike,

I did this on a coupe last year. Bolted up to a set square back spindles.
I used the kit from Speedway. Bearings and races are included. I think I had to m***age something to make the brake hose thread in.

Are you ditching your Buick brake setup??

also you can use 66' brake hardware because there self energizing, believe you need 53-56 backing plates and drums. please correct me if I'm wrong

****! I just looked at Speedway's kit. I spent 2-3 times that buying the same parts at NAPA.

"Sometimes" Speedway parts are cheaper China-made parts. "Sometimes" NAPA parts are high quality USA made parts. Check them out for yourself before buying.

Brotha Rob. This is more of a trouble eliminateing switch. I think the shop that machined my drums to fit my hubs didn't get one centered and I get a bad wheel hop at about 60 mph. I have spun balanced the drum/hub/wheel ***embly with no luck and I've swapped tires with no change. Hope this eliminates the problem.....Mike
