I am acquiring a 56 caddy 2dr, wondered if anyone has any pics and any opinions about if they are hard to find parts for and if anyone has any info I may want to know before purchasing.
'56 Cad has MANY 1 year only parts ... pot metal & stainless trim getting scarce. Some hold the opinion this is the last good looking Cad built until the mid '60s.
Here is my 56 Coupe Deville. The automatic gearbox is a one year only since the propshaft is in one piece. The Master Cylinder is a One year only, expensive i know. Otherwise chassie parts is quite easy to get. Vent windows is almost always broken at the lower part to the door and is a one year only but 55 can be used but an expert can see the difference. Cadillac built Coupe De Villebuilt in only around twentyfive thousand cars, so there is not a big aftermarket for suppliers to sell to. This means parts are harder to get, but not impossible. Compared to Fords and Chevys.. http://www.100megsfree4.com/cadillac/cad1950/cad56s.htm http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/ http://www.cadillacinternational.com/index.htm http://www.allcads.com/index.html
The vent windows can be "welded" back together IF you find a competent welder that understands cast metal...That is the weakest point on a Caddy...and the '54 /'55 hood hinge arrangement sucks big time... Have to disagree with 302GMC tho ...the '57 was about the best looking Caddy ever built...and the '60 is a close second... R-
Lots of cars have had that vent window break, it's not just a Cadillac thing. It happened to my "late model" 66 Chevelle, too. A good welder will make it like new.
There's some dude on the Kansas City Craigslist that bought two and has been trying to part 'em out for years. He's probably welcome the chance to sell some stuff.
Thanks fellas, just what I was looking for, didn't want to get it home and find out I couldn't get anything for it. I will assume most chassis stuff is interchangeable with chevys, hopefully. Whatever I can't get I will have to customize.
Not many aftermarket parts. Try to buy as complete of a car you can because the savings get eaten away fast when you have to replace those parts.
"Have to disagree with 302GMC tho ...the '57 was about the best looking Caddy ever built...and the '60 is a close second..." R- I'm with Roger on this one. <
Hey Ken...why would you agree to that one...??? LOL... BTW, that's my bro's favorite model...that's what he wanted when we found his '54...hard to come by around here... So I wonder if fat fenderless ever bought the '56...??? R-
